Summary

This 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer EX GLS is a prime example of the region's favorite reliable sedan, offering the perfect balance of Japanese durability and practical features. With mileage sitting comfortably around the 118,500 km mark, it has been driven significantly less than the typical 200,000+ km expected for a vehicle of this age in the GCC. The Grey exterior is a highly practical choice for the local climate, resisting the visible effects of dust while maintaining strong resale appeal. Choosing the GLS trim provides essential upgrades like cruise control and a rear-view camera that make daily commutes between Emirates much more relaxed. For any buyer prioritizing low running costs and a proven track record in extreme heat, this Lancer remains a standout choice.

This Car vs Other 2017 Lancer EXs

While many 2017 Lancer EXs in the UAE used market have crossed the 150,000 km threshold due to heavy highway commuting, this unit's 118,500 km is notably below average for its 9 years of age. This lower usage translates to better preserved interior surfaces and mechanical components. The Grey paintwork is a neutral, high-demand color in the GCC, ensuring it holds its value better than more niche shades when it comes time to trade in.

GLS vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to the GLS trim adds several features that GCC buyers find indispensable, most notably the cruise control system for long stretches on the E11 or E311. It replaces the basic steel wheels of the GLX with stylish alloys and adds a rear-view camera and fog lights for improved visibility. Inside, the GLS benefits from a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a 6-speaker audio system, offering a more refined cabin experience than the entry-level models.

Lancer EX vs Segment Rivals

The Lancer EX is frequently cross-shopped with the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic, where it leads on straightforward mechanical simplicity and ease of maintenance. Its air conditioning system is widely regarded by GCC owners as one of the most effective in the compact segment, capable of cooling the cabin rapidly during peak summer. Additionally, the Lancer’s 59-litre fuel tank provides a generous cruising range for cross-border trips or long desert highway drives.

Running Costs & Resale

Maintenance is exceptionally convenient thanks to an authorized service network that spans from the smallest towns to major cities like Dubai, Riyadh, and Muscat. Real-world fuel consumption typically averages between 7.0 and 8.0 L/100km, making it a budget-friendly option for high-mileage drivers. The Lancer EX follows a standard 10,000 km service interval, and because parts are shared across many model years, they are readily available and affordable. In the GCC, this model enjoys one of the slowest depreciation rates in its class, retaining a high percentage of its value even after several years of use.

Performance & Capability

The 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine is a proven workhorse, delivering reliable power for highway overtaking and stable performance at cruising speeds. While designed primarily for urban and highway use, its 150 mm ground clearance allows it to handle the occasional gravel road or uneven surfaces found in newer developments with ease. The automatic transmission is tuned for smooth power delivery, focusing on longevity and heat resistance rather than aggressive shifts.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Lancer EX offers a surprisingly spacious cabin for its class, with a 400-litre boot that easily accommodates family luggage or weekly groceries. The air conditioning system features dedicated vents that ensure consistent airflow to the rear passengers, a vital feature for those traveling with family during the summer months. The GLS trim’s upgraded fabric seats are designed for durability, resisting the wear and tear of daily use in a high-temperature environment.

Safety

Safety is a strong suit for the Lancer EX, backed by a 5-star ANCAP safety rating. This trim includes essential driver aids such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), ensuring stability during emergency stops on sandy or wet roads. Dual front airbags and a reinforced body structure provide peace of mind, while the standard rear-view camera assists in safe parking within busy urban shopping centers.

The bottom line

This Lancer EX GLS is the ideal match for a sensible buyer seeking a reliable, low-mileage Japanese sedan that is already proven to thrive in the GCC's demanding environment.
