Summary

This 2017 Porsche 911 TARGA 4 represents a unique opportunity to own one of the most desirable iterations of the 991.2 generation in the GCC. The TARGA 4 trim is highly sought after in the UAE and wider region for its iconic glass roof and silver roll bar, providing the open-air freedom of a convertible with the security and silhouette of a coupe. With its All-Wheel Drive system, this model offers exceptional stability on fast-moving highways and during occasional winter rain, making it a more versatile daily driver than the rear-wheel-drive alternatives. The Blue exterior is a sophisticated choice that holds its value well in the local market, standing out from the usual sea of monochrome cars without being overly aggressive. Given its maintenance history and regional specifications, this vehicle is perfectly adapted to the high-temperature environment of the Gulf. For a buyer looking for a sports car that balances iconic design with modern turbocharged performance, this GCC-spec TARGA 4 is a standout choice.

This Car vs Other 2017 911s

When comparing this vehicle to other 2017 911 models available in the GCC, the mileage reflects a car that has been enjoyed regularly rather than hidden away, yet it remains well within the expected range for a high-end daily driver in this region. In a market where many sports cars are left to sit, a 911 that has been driven consistently often has better-lubricated seals and a more reliable mechanical profile. The TARGA 4 variant specifically occupies a sweet spot in the 2017 lineup, offering the updated 3.0L twin-turbo engine that provides more low-end torque than the naturally aspirated engines of previous years. This makes it significantly more responsive in Dubai's stop-start traffic or when merging onto high-speed roads like Sheikh Zayed Road. Furthermore, being a GCC-spec vehicle, it features the cooling systems and radiator protections necessary for long-term durability in extreme heat, which many imported European or American models lack. This car strikes an excellent balance between a collector's item and a usable, reliable grand tourer.

TARGA 4 vs Lower Trims

Choosing the TARGA 4 over the standard Carrera or Carrera 4 brings several immediate advantages that GCC buyers prioritize. The most obvious is the complex and beautiful automated roof system, which is a mechanical masterpiece that never fails to draw attention at any valet stand. Beyond the aesthetics, the TARGA 4 comes standard with the wider body traditionally reserved for the higher-performance models, giving it a much more aggressive and planted stance on the road. The inclusion of the All-Wheel Drive system as standard provides a massive boost in confidence during high-speed cornering and ensures maximum traction on the dusty surfaces often found in the region. Inside, the trim level typically includes higher-grade materials and the updated Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system with improved connectivity. While the base Carrera is an excellent car, the Targa 4 feels like a much more special event every time you get behind the wheel, making it the preferred choice for those who value both style and substance.

911 vs Segment Rivals

The 911 TARGA 4 faces competition from the likes of the Jaguar F-Type SVR, the Mercedes-AMG GT, and the Aston Martin Vantage. However, the Porsche remains the undisputed leader in terms of daily usability and mechanical reliability in the harsh GCC climate. While rivals often struggle with heat soak in 45°C temperatures, the 911's cooling system is legendary for its efficiency. The TARGA 4 also offers a unique 2+2 seating configuration, providing small rear seats that are perfect for extra storage or short trips with children—a level of practicality the AMG GT and F-Type simply do not offer. Its All-Wheel Drive system is more sophisticated than the systems found in many competitors, offering a rear-biased feel that maintains the sports car soul while providing a safety net that rivals often lack. Additionally, the 911's visibility is vastly superior to the low-slung, high-waisted designs of the Jaguar and Aston Martin, making it far easier to maneuver in tight city parking and heavy traffic.

Running Costs & Resale

Running a 2017 911 TARGA 4 in the GCC is surprisingly manageable compared to other boutique sports cars. The 3.0L turbocharged engine is remarkably efficient on the highway, allowing for long-distance cruises between emirates without constant fuel stops. Service intervals are typically every 15,000 km or once a year, and Porsche's authorized service network is among the best in the region, with major centers across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. This ensures that genuine parts and expert technicians are always accessible. In terms of resale, the TARGA 4 is one of the strongest performers in the 911 range; it depreciates at a much slower rate than the standard convertible or coupe models due to its lower production numbers and high desirability. Historically, a GCC-spec 911 will retain roughly 65-70% of its value after five years, which is significantly higher than the 50-55% seen in rival European grand tourers. This makes it not just a purchase, but a sound financial move for a performance enthusiast.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this 911 is its 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, producing 365 hp and a robust torque curve that makes overtaking effortless. Mated to the lightning-fast PDK automatic transmission, the TARGA 4 delivers power to all four wheels with precision, ensuring a 0-100 km/h time that remains competitive with brand-new sports cars. The All-Wheel Drive system is particularly useful in the GCC, where fine desert sand can often blow onto the tarmac, reducing grip unexpectedly; the Porsche's system compensates instantly to maintain your line. On long highway stretches, the car is a master of stability, feeling completely composed at the 140 km/h speed limits of the Abu Dhabi-Dubai road. The drive modes allow you to transform the car from a comfortable, quiet cruiser into a sharp, loud sports car at the touch of a button. Even with the roof down, the aerodynamics are engineered to minimize cabin turbulence, allowing for open-top driving even during the warmer evenings of the UAE spring.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior of the 911 TARGA 4 is a masterclass in ergonomics and build quality, designed to withstand the intense UV rays and heat of the Middle East without fading or rattling. The 4-seat layout provides enough space for a young family or significant extra luggage space, complementing the front trunk. The air conditioning system is exceptionally powerful, a critical factor for any GCC owner, capable of cooling the cabin in minutes even after the car has been parked in the sun. This model features a premium audio system that provides crystal clear sound, whether you are listening to music or taking calls through the integrated Bluetooth system. The seats are highly adjustable and provide excellent lateral support for spirited driving while remaining comfortable enough for a four-hour road trip to Salalah or AlUla. Noise insulation with the Targa top closed is almost identical to the hardtop coupe, ensuring a serene environment for your daily commute.

Safety

Safety in the 911 TARGA 4 is comprehensive, featuring a suite of active and passive systems that are particularly relevant to the fast-paced driving environment of the GCC. The All-Wheel Drive system acts as a primary safety feature, providing superior grip in all weather and surface conditions. Standard equipment includes advanced stability and traction control systems that have been calibrated to intervene seamlessly without dulling the driving experience. The car is equipped with multiple airbags and a reinforced Targa bar that provides rollover protection equivalent to a fixed-roof car. High-performance brakes come standard, offering incredible stopping power and fade resistance, which is vital when slowing down from highway speeds in high ambient temperatures. Furthermore, the 911's lighting system provides exceptional visibility during night drives on unlit desert roads, ensuring you can spot hazards well in advance.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec Porsche 911 TARGA 4 is the perfect choice for the executive who wants an iconic, head-turning sports car that is reliable enough for daily use in the UAE. It offers the best resale value in its class and a unique driving experience that makes every journey feel like a special occasion.
