Summary

This Renault Duster represents a highly practical choice for those seeking a dependable crossover with a proven track record across the GCC. With its silver exterior—a top-performing resale color in the local market—and consistent maintenance, it stands as a resilient daily driver suited for both city commutes and weekend highway trips. The 2.0-litre engine provides the necessary power for regional road conditions without the complexity of more expensive rivals. As a 9-year-old vehicle with 138,000 km, its mileage remains well within the expected range for the UAE, where longer distances are the norm. This specific model is valued for its mechanical simplicity, ensuring straightforward ownership and high parts availability from Dubai to Muscat.

This Car vs Other 2017 Dusters

At 138,000 km, this Duster's mileage is notably average for a 9-year-old vehicle in the GCC, where annual averages often reach 25,000 km. The silver paintwork is a significant advantage for local buyers, offering the highest heat reflection and strongest resale demand in the UAE used market. Compared to high-mileage fleet examples, this privately maintained crossover offers better-preserved interior plastics and mechanical integrity.

PE vs Lower Trims

The PE trim serves as the essential entry point for Renault's SUV lineup, providing core features that GCC drivers rely on, including a powerful manual air conditioning system and Bluetooth connectivity. It focuses on durability, avoiding the electronic complexities of higher trims which can be sensitive to extreme desert heat. Buyers benefit from a straightforward cabin layout designed for longevity and ease of cleaning after weekend outings.

Duster vs Segment Rivals

When compared to rivals like the Nissan Juke or Mitsubishi ASX, the Duster leads with a more rugged suspension setup that handles speed bumps and gravel tracks with greater composure. Its 408-litre boot provides superior vertical loading space compared to the Juke, making it more practical for family grocery runs or camping gear. The 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine is preferred by local mechanics over the smaller turbo units found in some competitors for its long-term heat tolerance.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this 2.0L FWD model typically averages around 8.2L/100km on combined GCC cycles, offering a balanced trade-off between power and efficiency. Renault enjoys one of the most accessible service networks in the region, with authorized centers and specialized independent garages widely available across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Depreciation for the Duster is stable, as it remains one of the most liquid assets in the budget SUV segment due to constant demand for reliable commuters.

Performance & Capability

The 135 hp 2.0-litre engine is well-matched to the vehicle's weight, allowing for confident highway merging and a top speed of 173 km/h. Its Front Wheel Drive configuration is optimized for urban efficiency while maintaining a generous ground clearance that easily clears high curbs and uneven terrain. This powertrain is specifically tuned to operate reliably on local fuel grades while maintaining performance during the peak summer months.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat cabin is designed with GCC family logistics in mind, featuring hard-wearing cloth upholstery that stays cool under direct sunlight. The air conditioning system is specifically calibrated for the region's 45°C+ temperatures, ensuring rapid cabin cooling even after being parked outside. Ample headroom and a flat rear floor ensure that three adults can travel comfortably for inter-city trips between emirates.

Safety

Safety essentials are well-covered with standard front airbags and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) paired with Emergency Brake Assist. The vehicle's elevated seating position provides excellent visibility for navigating fast-moving highway traffic. Additional features like ISOFIX child seat anchors and central locking provide peace of mind for family users throughout the GCC.

The bottom line

This Duster is an ideal match for the budget-conscious professional or small family looking for a no-nonsense SUV that is cheap to run and easy to sell later in the UAE.
