Summary

This 2018 Kia Sportage EX represents a practical entry point into the SUV segment, combining Japanese-rivaling reliability with a significantly higher feature count for the price. With 89,000 km, this white GCC-spec example has been driven below the local annual average of 20,000 km, making it a mechanically fresh choice for daily commuting or small families. The EX trim adds the essential tech and comfort upgrades that GCC buyers demand, including leather upholstery and enhanced safety systems. In the local market, the Sportage is a resale powerhouse, favored for its simple maintenance and ice-cold air conditioning performance. It stands out as a sensible, risk-free investment for those moving between the major emirates or navigating city traffic.

This Car vs Other 2018 Sportages

With only 89,000 km on the odometer, this Sportage has averaged less than 15,000 km per year, which is considerably lower than the typical 20,000–25,000 km annual use seen across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. This lower-than-average mileage suggests less wear on the suspension and cooling systems, both critical for long-term GCC ownership. The white exterior is the most sought-after color in the region for its ability to reflect heat and maintain the highest possible resale value.

EX vs Lower Trims

The EX trim is a significant step up from the base LX, introducing leather upholstery and keyless ignition that elevate the daily driving experience. Crucially for GCC highway safety, the EX includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert as standard equipment. You also benefit from upgraded 18-inch wheels and dual-zone automatic climate control, ensuring the cabin stays consistent even in peak summer heat.

Sportage vs Segment Rivals

The Sportage competes directly with the Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson, leading the segment in interior material quality and standard technology at this price point. While rivals often charge a premium for safety tech, the Sportage EX includes driver-assist features that make fast-paced highway commuting safer. It offers a balanced 62-litre fuel tank, providing ample range for long-distance drives between Dubai and Abu Dhabi or cross-border trips.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine is highly regarded in the GCC for its simplicity and tolerance for local fuel grades, typically consuming around 7.9 L/100km on the highway. Kia maintains one of the most comprehensive authorized service networks across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring parts are affordable and widely available. Historically, the Sportage retains approximately 60% of its value after three to four years in the local market, making it one of the most financially stable SUVs to own.

Performance & Capability

The 163 hp power output is delivered through a smooth 6-speed automatic transmission, optimized for predictable urban handling and steady highway cruising. With a 172 mm ground clearance, it handles speed bumps and gravel tracks with ease, providing the elevated driving position local drivers prefer. While built for the road, its robust chassis and front-wheel-drive setup provide a stable, comfortable ride for daily inter-emirate travel.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Sportage offers a spacious 5-seat layout with dedicated rear AC vents— a mandatory feature for passenger comfort during the GCC summer. The EX trim provides a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and high-quality leather surfaces that are easier to maintain than fabric in dusty environments. Quiet cabin insulation ensures a refined environment, effectively blocking out wind noise during high-speed highway stretches.

Safety

Safety is a priority in the EX trim, which comes equipped with six airbags and a comprehensive electronic stability suite to handle sudden changes in road surface. The inclusion of blind-spot monitoring is particularly useful for the multi-lane highway systems in Riyadh and Dubai, while the standard rearview camera makes parking in tight urban spaces effortless. Hill-start assist and downhill brake control add an extra layer of security when navigating varied terrain.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer seeking a low-mileage, high-trim SUV that won't lose its value, this GCC-spec Sportage EX is the definitive choice. It offers the perfect balance of local reliability and modern features without the premium price tag of a brand-new model.
