Toyota Land Cruiser GXR

Highlights

• Selectable terrain modes with Crawl Control
• 138-litre dual fuel tank standard
• Strong value retention in the GCC used market

Summary

This 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser GXR is a standout find in the UAE market, pairing a highly desirable black exterior with mileage that sits well below the regional average for its age. While the 4.0L V6 is famed for its near-indestructible nature in desert conditions, this specific unit’s low usage makes it a mechanically fresh alternative to higher-mileage examples. The GXR trim strikes the perfect balance for GCC owners, providing essential luxury upgrades like a sunroof and premium styling without the complexity of higher-spec hydraulic systems. For a buyer seeking the ultimate regional workhorse that holds its value better than almost anything else on the road, this GCC-spec Cruiser is an exceptional candidate.

This Car vs Other 2018 Land Cruisers

At 92,000 km, this vehicle has averaged just over 15,000 km per year, significantly less than the 20,000–25,000 km annual average typical for large SUVs in the GCC. The black exterior is a high-demand resale color in the local market, offering a distinct advantage over niche colors when it comes time to trade in. Being a GCC-spec model, it features the reinforced cooling and filtration systems necessary for long-term reliability in the heat of the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim provides a meaningful step up from the base EXR, most notably adding a power sunroof and integrated LED daytime running lights that enhance its road presence. Inside, you benefit from upgraded convenience features such as a wireless charger and a powered driver’s seat, which are frequently requested by premium buyers in the region. It also includes additional chrome exterior detailing and front fog lamps that distinguish it from the entry-level utility-focused trims.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Nissan Patrol, the Land Cruiser leads with a more compact footprint that makes it easier to navigate tight urban parking in Dubai while maintaining superior resale value retention. Against the Chevrolet Tahoe, the Toyota offers a genuine dual fuel tank system totaling 138 litres, providing much greater range for cross-border trips or long desert expeditions. Its body-on-frame durability remains the benchmark for those who actually intend to take their family off-road on the weekends.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.0L V6 is the gold standard for predictable running costs in the GCC, with parts available at almost every corner across the UAE and Oman. Real-world fuel consumption typically averages around 13L/100km, a fair trade for the reliability of a naturally aspirated engine in extreme heat. In the GCC market, the Land Cruiser experiences the lowest depreciation in its class, often retaining significantly more of its value after three years compared to its American and European rivals. Maintenance is straightforward, with 10,000 km service intervals supported by the most extensive authorized network in the region.

Performance & Capability

The 271 hp V6 engine is tuned for torque and longevity rather than raw speed, providing a reliable 385 Nm for highway overtaking and sand climbs. With a ground clearance of 230 mm and a sophisticated full-time 4WD system featuring a Torsen limited-slip center differential, it is built to handle everything from Liwa dunes to high-speed highway cruising between emirates. The inclusion of Crawl Control and Multi-Terrain Select ensures that even novice off-roaders can navigate soft sand with confidence.

Comfort & Cabin

Configured as a true eight-seater, the cabin is designed for large families with a powerful tri-zone climate control system that is specifically engineered to drop temperatures rapidly in 45°C+ heat. The third row is genuinely usable for children or adults on shorter trips, and the GXR’s acoustic glass helps maintain a quiet environment even at highway speeds. Practical touches for the region include a cooled center console box, essential for keeping beverages cold during long summer drives.

Safety

This Land Cruiser comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including vehicle stability control, active traction control, and multiple airbags for all rows. For GCC highway driving, the standard cruise control and hill-start assist provide added convenience, while the parking sensors and rear-view camera make maneuvering this large SUV manageable in city traffic. Its heavy-duty body-on-frame construction provides a level of passive safety and occupant protection that remains highly regarded by safety-conscious families.

The bottom line

This is a rare opportunity to own a low-mileage, GCC-spec Land Cruiser in a top-tier resale color, offering the perfect mix of desert capability and legendary value retention.
