Summary

This 2019 Honda Pilot Touring is a standout choice for GCC families, combining Honda’s legendary reliability with a high-feature specification that excels in local conditions. Finished in black, a perennial favorite for resale in the region, this SUV offers the upgraded 9-speed automatic transmission for smoother highway cruising between Emirates. While the mileage reflects typical long-distance use common in the UAE, the Pilot remains a segment leader for its interior packaging and cooling efficiency. It serves as a more refined alternative to the Nissan Pathfinder and a more practical daily driver than body-on-frame competitors. For a buyer seeking a safe, tech-forward seven-seater that holds its value, this GCC-spec Touring model represents a highly balanced opportunity.

This Car vs Other 2019 Pilots

With 130,000 km, this Pilot has been driven approximately 26,000 km per year, which is closely aligned with the typical GCC annual average of 20,000–25,000 km. The black exterior is a high-demand color in the UAE used market, offering a distinct advantage for future resale value compared to niche colors. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it features the necessary cooling and filtration systems designed to handle extreme summer temperatures that North American imports may lack.

Touring vs Lower Trims

The Touring trim is a significant step up from the EX-L, introducing the more sophisticated 9-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters for better gear selection. It also standardizes the Rear Entertainment System with a 10.2-inch screen and the 590-watt 10-speaker premium audio system, both of which are essential for keeping families comfortable on long cross-border drives. Additionally, the Touring adds 20-inch alloy wheels and the CabinTalk PA system, allowing the driver to communicate easily with passengers in the third row.

Pilot vs Segment Rivals

The Honda Pilot leads the Toyota Highlander and Nissan Pathfinder in interior volume, particularly regarding the usability of the third row for adults. While the Highlander is known for its hybrid efficiency, the Pilot’s naturally aspirated 3.5L V6 is preferred by many GCC owners for its straightforward maintenance and predictable performance on high-speed highways. Its 73-liter fuel tank is well-suited for long-distance journeys across the region without frequent refueling stops.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the Pilot Touring typically ranges between 10.5L/100km on highways and 13.5L/100km in stop-start city traffic. Maintenance is supported by one of the most extensive authorized service networks in the GCC, with parts widely available and reasonably priced compared to European rivals. The Pilot historically retains roughly 60–65% of its value after three years in the local market, benefiting from Honda's reputation for long-term mechanical durability.

Performance & Capability

The 280 hp V6 engine provides a smooth 0–100 km/h sprint in approximately 8.2 seconds, ensuring confident overtaking on fast-moving highways like the E11. Unlike basic SUVs, the Touring trim features Intelligent Traction Management with dedicated modes for Sand and Mud, providing necessary capability for weekend beach trips or light desert trails. Its 5,000-lb braked towing capacity (when AWD equipped) makes it a versatile workhorse for small boats or trailers.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for GCC summers, featuring a powerful tri-zone climate control system with dedicated vents for all three rows to ensure rapid cooling. This Touring model features leather-trimmed seating for seven, with second-row captain's chairs providing an executive feel and easier access to the rear. The acoustic windshield and thick door glass effectively isolate the cabin from wind noise and exterior heat during high-speed highway commutes.

Safety

Safety is a primary focus with the standard Honda Sensing suite, which includes Adaptive Cruise Control for long desert drives and Lane Keeping Assist for highway safety. The 2019 Pilot earned a 5-star NHTSA rating and features six airbags as standard, along with a multi-angle rearview camera that simplifies parking in tight urban spaces. Blind Spot Information with Rear Cross Traffic Monitor is also included, providing essential awareness in fast-moving multi-lane traffic.

The bottom line

For a growing family in the GCC, this Pilot Touring offers the ideal mix of premium technology and proven reliability in a high-resale color. It is the perfect choice for buyers who prioritize safety and cabin space without the high running costs of a full-size luxury SUV.
