Summary

This 2019 Hyundai Tucson GL Basic offers a refined balance of city-friendly dimensions and highway capability, featuring the upgraded 2.4L engine that provides a significant power boost over the base 2.0L variants. While many Tucsons in this segment struggle on long desert highways, the all-wheel-drive system and extra horsepower here ensure confident overtaking and stability. For a vehicle at the 7-year mark, it remains a highly practical choice with a surprisingly large cargo area and a user-friendly infotainment setup that remains relevant. As a white SUV, it benefits from the highest demand and strongest resale potential in the local market. For any buyer in the GCC, this model's widespread popularity ensures that professional servicing and affordable replacement parts are never more than a few minutes away.

This Car vs Other 2019 Tucsons

With 162,000 km, this Tucson aligns closely with typical GCC usage patterns for a 7-year-old vehicle, where highway commuting often results in higher annual averages. Its white exterior is the most sought-after color in the region, offering superior heat reflection and maintaining a higher resale value than darker alternatives. Choosing the 2.4L engine over the more common 2.0L base version makes this specific unit more capable for high-speed inter-city travel.

GL BASIC vs Lower Trims

While the GL Basic serves as an entry point into the Tucson range, this American-spec version often features the upgraded 2.4L GDI engine as standard, a feature usually reserved for higher-spec trims in other markets. It includes essential tech like a 7-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration and advanced safety systems that are frequently missing from regional base-level alternatives. This combination provides the mechanical strength of a high-spec model with the straightforward maintenance of a basic trim.

Tucson vs Segment Rivals

The Tucson stands out against rivals like the Toyota RAV4 and Nissan X-Trail by offering a more car-like driving experience and a dashboard layout that prioritizes ergonomics. Its 878-litre boot capacity is among the most generous in the compact SUV segment, making it a better fit for family road trips than several narrower competitors. Additionally, the availability of 181 hp in this displacement provides a more responsive feel during highway merging compared to the sluggish base engines found in many entry-level crossovers.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.4L AWD powertrain typically averages around 10.1 L/100km on a combined cycle, though this can fluctuate in stop-start city traffic. Hyundai has one of the most extensive authorized service networks across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, which keeps maintenance costs predictable and parts readily available. In the GCC used market, the Tucson holds its value exceptionally well, typically retaining over 55% of its value after five years, particularly in high-demand colors like white.

Performance & Capability

The 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine delivers 181 hp, providing enough torque to handle a full load of five passengers without feeling strained on highway inclines. The All-Wheel Drive system is particularly useful for maintaining traction on gravel tracks or during the occasional heavy rain in the region, while the 172 mm ground clearance allows it to clear speed breakers and uneven terrain comfortably. Its 6-speed automatic transmission is tuned for smoothness, ensuring a relaxed cabin environment during long drives between emirates.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for daily practicality, featuring a 60/40 split-folding rear seat that allows for massive cargo expansion when needed. Standard air conditioning in the Tucson is robust and well-suited for the GCC summer, quickly cooling the 5-seat interior even after the car has been parked in the sun. The infotainment system is mounted in a modern tablet style atop the dashboard, keeping your focus closer to the road while utilizing navigation or media.

Safety

This Tucson is equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including multiple airbags and stability control systems. Standard features often include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Lane Keeping Assist, which provide an extra layer of protection during fast-moving highway traffic. It earned high safety marks in international testing, making it a reliable choice for families who prioritize structural integrity and active driver assistance.

The bottom line

This is the ideal SUV for a pragmatic buyer looking for a reliable, white crossover that is more powerful than a standard base model and retains its value better than almost anything else in its class.
