Summary

This 2017 Hyundai Tucson GLS represents a reliable choice for GCC drivers who prioritize low ownership costs and high resale potential. The GLS trim offers a balanced feature set that stands up well against rivals like the Toyota RAV4, especially in cabin technology and overall refinement. With its black exterior, it holds a favored position in the local used market, ensuring it remains a liquid asset for its next owner. As a nine-year-old SUV, it offers the mechanical simplicity that makes long-term maintenance in the region straightforward and affordable. For a family or daily commuter, this Tucson provides a proven platform that handles both city congestion and highway travel with ease.

This Car vs Other 2017 Tucsons

At 211,000 km, this Tucson has seen active use consistent with the GCC's long-distance highway culture. While the mileage is higher than global averages, it is typical for a nine-year-old vehicle in this region where inter-emirate commutes are standard. The black exterior is a significant advantage, as it remains one of the top three most desirable colors for resale in the local market.

GLS vs Lower Trims

The GLS trim provides a noticeable step up from the base GL, adding essential features for the GCC climate such as automatic climate control and upgraded upholstery. Owners also benefit from enhanced exterior aesthetics like alloy wheels and front fog lights, alongside interior tech upgrades including steering wheel-mounted audio controls and Bluetooth connectivity.

Tucson vs Segment Rivals

The Tucson leads competitors like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V in terms of total cost of ownership and initial feature value. Its 513-litre boot space is highly competitive for the segment, making it a practical family hauler. Furthermore, Hyundai’s aggressive expansion in the GCC means parts availability and specialized service centers are often more accessible than those for rivals like the Mazda CX-5.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the Tucson averages between 8.1L/100km to 9.5L/100km depending on driving conditions, making it an efficient choice for daily city use. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, and Hyundai's extensive authorized network across the UAE and KSA ensures maintenance is never a logistical burden. This model maintains strong value retention, typically depreciating slower than European luxury counterparts in the region.

Performance & Capability

The 4-cylinder petrol engine is paired with a smooth 6-speed automatic transmission, optimized for reliability rather than raw speed. It offers a stable and comfortable ride for long desert highway drives between major cities, with sufficient ground clearance to handle light gravel paths and high speed bumps. The drive mode selector allows you to adjust steering and transmission response to suit different traffic environments.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for five passengers with a focus on ergonomics and thermal comfort, featuring dedicated rear A/C vents to combat the extreme summer heat. Acoustic insulation provides a quiet environment during highway cruising, while the 60:40 split-folding rear seats allow for flexible cargo configurations. Standard features like keyless entry and cruise control significantly enhance the daily driving experience.

Safety

Safety is managed through a comprehensive suite of active and passive systems including Anti-lock Brakes (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and multiple airbags. The inclusion of Brake Assist and a sturdy monocoque chassis provides peace of mind on fast-moving UAE highways. ISOFIX child seat anchors are also standard, reinforcing its position as a dedicated family vehicle.

The bottom line

Perfect for the value-conscious family or professional, this Tucson GLS offers a reliable and well-equipped SUV package with one of the strongest service backbones in the GCC.
