Summary

This 2019 Mitsubishi Montero Sport in the top-tier GLS Premium Signature Edition offers a unique balance of genuine off-road capability and family-friendly tech. With mileage under the 100,000 km mark, it sits comfortably within the expected usage for a 7-year-old SUV in the GCC, where long-distance commutes are the norm. The Signature Edition trim adds exclusive aesthetic touches that help it stand out in a crowded segment dominated by more utilitarian rivals. Mitsubishi’s reputation for reliability in extreme heat makes this a dependable choice for those navigating both city traffic in Riyadh or Dubai and weekend desert escapes. For a buyer seeking a rugged, body-on-frame 4x4 without the premium price tag of a Land Cruiser, this well-maintained GCC-spec example is a highly logical acquisition.

This Car vs Other 2019 Montero Sports

With 96,981 km over 7 years, this vehicle has averaged approximately 13,800 km per year, which is significantly lower than the GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km. While many Montero Sports of this vintage have been pushed into high-mileage territory by heavy cross-border use, this example retains a mechanical freshness that is hard to find. The 'Signature Edition' enhancements and the high-spec GLS Premium features provide a better resale case than the more common base GLX models found in the market.

GLS PREMIUM SIGNATURE EDI vs Lower Trims

The GLS Premium trim is a major step up from the GLX and standard GLS, introducing essential GCC luxuries like leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and a power sunroof. Critically, it adds the full safety suite including Forward Collision Mitigation and Blind Spot Warning, which are often absent in lower trims. The Signature Edition further distinguishes itself with unique interior accents and exterior styling cues that offer a more bespoke feel compared to the standard fleet-oriented versions.

Montero Sport vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Toyota Fortuner or Isuzu MU-X, the Montero Sport leads with its sophisticated Super Select II 4WD system, which allows for high-speed 4WD driving on paved roads—a major advantage during sudden GCC rainstorms or on gravel tracks. It offers a more car-like ride quality and better cabin insulation than the more agricultural Fortuner, making it superior for long highway drives between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Additionally, its 8-speed automatic transmission provides smoother gear transitions than many of its 6-speed competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Mitsubishi maintains one of the most robust authorized service footprints across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring that parts like air filters and brake pads are always readily available and affordable. The 3.0L V6 is a proven, simple engine that handles the local 95-octane fuel with ease and manages roughly 13.6 L/100km in combined driving. While it depreciates slightly faster than a Toyota, the lower initial purchase price often means you get more features and a newer model year for the same budget, and the GCC-spec status ensures it remains a liquid asset in the used market.

Performance & Capability

The 3.0-litre MIVEC V6 delivers 215 hp and 285 Nm of torque, providing ample power for highway overtaking even with a full load of seven passengers. Its true strength lies in its off-road hardware, featuring a dedicated low-range transfer case and selectable off-road modes for gravel, mud, sand, and rock. With a generous 218 mm of ground clearance, it is perfectly suited for weekend adventures in the Liwa dunes or the wadis of Hatta. The 8-speed transmission is tuned to keep the engine in its power band, making it feel more responsive than its 0–100 km/h time of roughly 9.7 seconds suggests.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the Gulf climate, featuring a dual-zone automatic climate control system with dedicated rear AC vents that effectively cool all three rows. High-quality leather seats and a 9-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ensure that long family road trips remain connected and comfortable. The second and third rows fold nearly flat, offering versatile cargo space for everything from camping gear to large grocery runs. Acoustic glass helps keep the cabin quiet, isolating passengers from the wind noise common during high-speed highway cruising.

Safety

This GLS Premium trim is equipped with a comprehensive safety package, featuring 7 SRS airbags and the Mitsubishi RISE impact-safety body. Advanced driver aids include Forward Collision Mitigation, which can help prevent low-speed accidents in heavy traffic, and Blind Spot Warning, a necessity on the fast-moving multi-lane highways of the GCC. It also features Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation, a unique system that prevents accidental acceleration if it detects an obstacle while the vehicle is at a standstill or moving slowly.

The bottom line

This is the ideal SUV for a family that needs a reliable daily driver but refuses to give up genuine weekend off-road capability. With its low-for-the-region mileage and top-spec Signature Edition trim, it represents a high-value alternative to more expensive rivals in the GCC market.
