Summary

This BMW X4 M Competition is a standout choice for performance enthusiasts in the GCC, offering a massive power jump over the standard M variant. With its Grey exterior, it maintains high resale appeal in a market that favors sophisticated, heat-reflective tones. Having covered 100,146 km in 6 years, its mileage is exactly in line with typical GCC highway use, suggesting the mechanicals have been properly cycled rather than sitting idle. As a GCC-spec model, it benefits from the regional cooling upgrades essential for maintaining peak performance during intense summer months. This is the ultimate crossover for those who need SUV practicality without sacrificing the aggressive driving dynamics of a true M-car.

This Car vs Other 2020 X4s

At 100,146 km, this vehicle's mileage is average for a 6-year-old car in the GCC, where annual averages typically reach 20,000 km due to inter-emirate highway commuting. Its Grey finish is one of the most resilient colors for local resale, offering a modern look that hides desert dust better than darker alternatives. Unlike lower-mileage examples that may have missed critical high-heat stress tests, this car has proven its reliability over a standard GCC lifecycle.

M COMPETITION vs Lower Trims

The M Competition trim provides a significant 30 hp boost over the standard X4 M, along with a specialized M Sport exhaust system that delivers a more aggressive acoustic profile. GCC buyers will appreciate the upgraded 21-inch V-spoke wheels and high-gloss black exterior accents that distinguish it from the M40i. Inside, the Competition trim adds M Seat Belts and extended Merino leather upholstery as standard, features that command a premium in the local used market.

X4 vs Segment Rivals

The X4 M Competition leads rivals like the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S Coupe and Porsche Macan Turbo in terms of raw inline-six engine character and high-speed stability on GCC highways. Its S58 engine architecture is shared with the M3, giving it a technical edge in tuning potential and parts availability across the region. While rivals focus on softer rides, the X4 M provides a more connected, rear-biased xDrive system that excels during spirited weekend drives through the Jebel Jais mountain passes.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption averages approximately 10.8 L/100km on the highway, though this will increase in stop-start city traffic in Dubai or Riyadh. Service intervals are managed by BMW’s Condition Based Service (CBS) system, typically alerting for maintenance every 10,000 to 12,000 km. BMW has a massive authorized service footprint across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring that specialized M-parts are rarely more than a day away. The M Competition trim typically retains 5–8% more value than the standard M trim after three years in the GCC market.

Performance & Capability

With a 0–100 km/h time of just 4.1 seconds, this SUV delivers supercar-rivaling acceleration that makes highway overtaking effortless. The M-specific xDrive system features a 4WD Sport mode, allowing for a rear-biased torque split that mimics the handling of a sports sedan while maintaining 500 hp of traction. It offers 204 mm of ground clearance, sufficient for handling gravel paths and sandy shoulders during weekend escapes, while the Adaptive M Suspension ensures the car stays flat and composed at high speeds.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is tailored for the GCC climate, featuring M Sport seats with aggressive bolstering and high-quality leather that remains comfortable even during long summer drives. Quad-zone climate control ensures all five passengers stay cool, with dedicated rear vents to combat high external temperatures. The 10.25-inch iDrive system provides seamless navigation and media control, while the acoustic glazing helps isolate the cabin from the wind noise common on fast-moving GCC highways.

Safety

Standard safety features include a comprehensive ADAS suite with Frontal Collision Warning, City Braking Function, and Lane Departure Warning, providing essential protection on multi-lane highways. The Active M Differential and Dynamic Stability Control are specifically calibrated to handle the sudden loss of traction caused by sand on the road surface. Additionally, the 360-degree camera system and Park Distance Control make navigating tight urban parking spaces in major GCC cities simple and safe.

The bottom line

For the driver who wants the engine of an M3 in a versatile SUV body, this GCC-spec M Competition represents a balanced opportunity with the right spec and proven regional reliability.
