Summary

This 6-year-old Ford Explorer Limited offers a premium seven-seat experience with a mileage profile that aligns perfectly with GCC highway-heavy driving patterns. The white exterior is a top-tier choice for the region, known for its superior heat reflection and excellent resale stability in the local market. As the mid-range Limited trim, it strikes a balance between daily family practicality and high-end tech usually reserved for executive vehicles. Its turbocharged powertrain provides punchy performance for merging onto fast-moving UAE highways without the high fuel overhead of traditional large V6 engines. For the GCC buyer, the availability of a widespread authorized service network across the Emirates and Saudi Arabia makes this a low-stress ownership proposition.

This Car vs Other 2020 Explorers

With approximately 89,593 km on the odometer, this Explorer has averaged around 15,000 km per year, which is lower than the typical GCC average of 20,000 to 25,000 km. This below-average usage suggests less mechanical wear than many of its contemporaries found in the regional market. The white paint is the most sought-after color in the GCC, ensuring it remains a liquid asset should you decide to upgrade in the future.

LIMITED vs Lower Trims

The Limited trim significantly elevates the cabin experience over the XLT by adding ventilated front seats, which are essential for the GCC summer. It also introduces a premium 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, a 360-degree camera for easier parking in tight mall spaces, and leather upholstery throughout. Practical upgrades include a foot-activated power liftgate and power-folding third-row seats that transform the cargo area at the touch of a button.

Explorer vs Segment Rivals

The Explorer leads rivals like the Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot by offering a rear-wheel-drive-based platform that provides a more dynamic driving feel and superior towing capability. Its 10-speed automatic transmission offers smoother shifts and better highway efficiency compared to the CVTs or 6-speed units found in some competitors. Additionally, Ford's Co-Pilot360 suite provides a more comprehensive set of standard active safety features than many segment alternatives.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.3L EcoBoost in GCC conditions typically averages around 10.3 L/100km, offering a respectable range for long-distance hauls between cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Authorized service centers are widely available through Al Tayer in the UAE and Al Jazirah in Saudi Arabia, ensuring parts and expert maintenance are never far away. The Explorer maintains a strong 70% value retention after four years in the GCC, making it a reliable investment compared to European luxury crossovers.

Performance & Capability

With 300 hp and 420 Nm of torque, this SUV provides effortless highway overtaking even when fully loaded with seven passengers. The Terrain Management System includes specific modes for Sand and Trail, making it capable of handling weekend excursions into the desert outskirts or gravel wadi paths. Its braked towing capacity of 2,404 kg is highly competitive, easily managing boat trailers or small campers for regional road trips.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout features a versatile 50/50 split third row and dedicated rear climate control vents to ensure every passenger stays cool during peak summer. Interior comfort is a priority with the Limited trim’s acoustic-laminated windows that significantly reduce wind and road noise on the highway. Multi-zone climate control and ventilated seating make long midday drives across the desert far more pleasant for the driver and front passenger.

Safety

This Explorer is equipped with the full Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ suite, including adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane centering, and evasive steering assist. These systems are particularly beneficial for the fast-paced, multi-lane highway traffic common in major GCC cities. Standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert provide essential visibility in high-traffic urban environments.

The bottom line

This Explorer Limited is an ideal match for a growing family that needs a tech-heavy, seven-seat SUV with a mileage profile that promises many more years of reliable service across the GCC.
