Summary

This 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS450 4MATIC is the quintessential family flagship for the GCC, offering the perfect balance of luxury and road presence. As a 6-year-old vehicle with 97,000 km, its mileage is exactly in line with typical GCC highway use, suggesting a life of well-maintained commutes between emirates. The vibrant red exterior is a rare, high-visibility choice that stands out in a market dominated by white and silver, while the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system provides essential stability during sudden desert sandstorms. For the serious buyer, this model represents the first year of the redesigned third generation, bringing the modern MBUX interface and the smooth EQ Boost hybrid system that is highly regarded for local reliability. This is a versatile 7-seater that handles the heat of a Dubai summer and the distances of a cross-border road trip with equal composure.

This Car vs Other 2020 GLS450s

With 97,000 km on the odometer, this GLS450 has averaged roughly 16,000 km per year, which is notably lower than the GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km. While red is a unique choice for a large SUV, it often appeals to buyers looking for a more individualistic executive look while maintaining the high resale standards of the Mercedes-Benz brand in the UAE. This specific unit represents the newer generation of GLS, ensuring it stays relevant and holds value better than the pre-2020 body style.

4MATIC vs Lower Trims

The 4MATIC trim on the GLS450 is far from an entry-level experience, as it introduced the twin 12.3-inch digital displays and MBUX infotainment as standard for the 2020 model year. Unlike lower-tier luxury SUVs, this trim includes the Burmester Surround Sound system and a 360-degree camera, which are essential for navigating tight parking in Riyadh or Dubai. It also features the AIRMATIC air suspension, providing a level of ride comfort that basic coil-spring competitors cannot match.

GLS450 vs Segment Rivals

The GLS450 is often compared to the BMW X7 and the Lexus LX; however, the Mercedes leads with a more car-like, refined interior often called the 'S-Class of SUVs.' Its 90-litre fuel tank is specifically advantageous for long-distance highway cruises across the GCC, offering more range than many smaller-tanked rivals. The inline-six engine with EQ Boost also provides a smoother start-stop experience in heavy city traffic compared to the more traditional V8 powertrains found in some competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this mild-hybrid powertrain typically sits around 9.2L/100km on the highway, making it one of the more efficient 7-seaters in its class for long GCC drives. Maintenance is supported by an extensive authorized service network spanning every major city from Muscat to Kuwait City, ensuring high parts availability. Mercedes-Benz SUVs of this generation generally see an annual depreciation of 12–15% in the GCC, with well-documented GCC-spec examples like this one holding a premium over non-regional imports.

Performance & Capability

The GLS450 delivers a refined 362 hp and 500 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 6.2 seconds—impressive for a vehicle of this size. The 4MATIC fully variable all-wheel-drive system works in tandem with specialized drive modes to handle everything from wet coastal roads to light gravel tracks. With a braked towing capacity of up to 3,500 kg, it is also highly capable for those needing to transport jet skis or trailers for weekend adventures.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the three-row layout comfortably seats seven adults, with the third row offering genuine usability rather than just child seating. The cabin is designed for the Middle Eastern climate, featuring a powerful multi-zone climate control system and high-quality insulation that keeps the interior quiet and cool. Tech highlights include the intuitive 'Hey Mercedes' voice control and 64-color ambient lighting that transforms the cabin atmosphere for evening drives.

Safety

Safety is paramount in the GLS450, which comes standard with Active Brake Assist, Blind Spot Assist, and the Pre-Safe system. For the fast-moving highways of the GCC, the standard 360-degree camera and Active Parking Assist provide critical confidence in tight spaces. The vehicle is also equipped with a comprehensive airbag suite and high-strength body construction, consistently earning top safety marks from global testing bodies.

The bottom line

For the GCC family that refuses to choose between a luxury sedan and a capable SUV, this low-usage 2020 GLS450 offers a modern tech suite and flagship comfort at a smart pre-owned value.
