Summary

This 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS450 4MATIC represents a balanced luxury opportunity in the GCC market, offering seven-seat versatility with a refined silver finish that holds strong resale appeal locally. The 3.0L inline-six engine provides smooth power delivery ideal for both high-speed highway commutes between emirates and heavy city traffic. As a premium American-spec import, it offers a high feature-to-price ratio compared to local equivalents, making it an attractive choice for those seeking flagship SUV technology. Buyers should note that while this model excels in comfort, verifying its service history is essential for long-term peace of mind in the Gulf's demanding climate. It stands out in its segment for its superior ride quality and MBUX infotainment suite, which remains a benchmark for luxury large SUVs.

This Car vs Other 2022 GLS450s

With mileage just under 97,000 km, this vehicle has seen slightly higher than average annual use compared to the typical 20,000–25,000 km expected in the UAE market, likely due to highway driving which is easier on the powertrain than stop-start traffic. The silver exterior is one of the most practical and sought-after colors for the GCC, effectively hiding desert dust and maintaining high resale interest. As an American-spec vehicle, it provides a cost-effective entry point into the GLS generation while retaining the core mechanical hardware of its local counterparts.

4MATIC vs Lower Trims

The GLS450 4MATIC comes standard with All-Wheel Drive and the Airmatic air suspension system, which are significant upgrades over smaller Mercedes SUV platforms. This specific trim includes the MBUX digital cockpit with two 12.3-inch screens and the 48-volt mild-hybrid EQ Boost system, enhancing both acceleration and fuel efficiency during highway cruising. While higher trims like the GLS580 add a V8 engine, the 450's inline-six is often preferred in the GCC for its lower maintenance complexity and efficient cooling performance.

GLS450 vs Segment Rivals

The Mercedes-Benz GLS450 leads rivals like the BMW X7 and Lexus LX in terms of ride suppleness and interior tech integration, specifically through the intuitive MBUX voice control. Its 3,500 kg towing capacity is highly competitive, outperforming many unibody crossovers and making it suitable for hauling marine gear or trailers. For families in the GCC, it offers a more car-like, refined driving experience than the body-on-frame Lexus, without sacrificing the interior volume needed for seven passengers.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the GLS450 averages approximately 12.8 L/100km in city conditions and 10.0 L/100km on long highway stretches like the E11. Service intervals are typically every 15,000 km, and while authorized Mercedes-Benz centers are plentiful across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, American-spec cars should be maintained at specialists familiar with U.S. software updates. The GLS retains roughly 65–70% of its value after three years in the GCC, though American-spec models trade at a discount to GCC-spec versions, offering a lower initial purchase price.

Performance & Capability

The 367 hp inline-six engine, assisted by the EQ Boost hybrid system, enables a 0–100 km/h time of 6.2 seconds, ensuring effortless overtaking on fast-moving highways. The 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system provides confident traction on gravel tracks or during occasional rain-slicked road conditions in the winter months. Standard air suspension allows the vehicle to adjust its height, improving stability at high speeds and providing a 'magic carpet' ride quality over uneven surfaces.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a true seven-seater with power-folding rear rows that allow for a flat loading floor when extra cargo space is required. For the GCC climate, the multi-zone climate control system ensures that even third-row passengers stay cool during summer peaks, while the massive digital dashboard provides clear visibility under bright sunlight. The acoustic insulation is world-class, keeping the interior whisper-quiet even at the 140 km/h speed limits common on regional highways.

Safety

This GLS450 is equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including Active Brake Assist, Blind Spot Assist, and Pre-Safe technology, which are vital for navigating busy multi-lane roads in Dubai or Riyadh. The 360-degree camera system makes maneuvering this large SUV in tight mall parking lots effortless. Additionally, the standard 48-volt system supports advanced stability features, ensuring the vehicle remains composed during sudden evasive maneuvers at highway speeds.

The bottom line

This 2022 GLS450 is an ideal match for a family looking for flagship Mercedes-Benz luxury and seven-seat practicality at a more accessible price point thanks to its American specification. It offers the perfect blend of high-tech features and regional color appeal for a smart second-hand purchase in the UAE.
