Summary

This 2020 Mitsubishi Pajero GLS Highline is the quintessential choice for GCC residents seeking a blend of urban practicality and weekend desert capability. Powered by the range-topping 3.8L V6 engine, it offers a significant performance jump over the common 3.0L and 3.5L variants, making highway overtaking much smoother. With white being the most popular resale color in the region and its GCC-specific cooling systems, this vehicle is perfectly adapted to the local climate. Its reputation for bulletproof reliability is backed by a massive service network, ensuring that maintenance is straightforward whether you are in Dubai, Riyadh, or Muscat. For a buyer wanting a seven-seat SUV that holds its value exceptionally well, this Highline trim represents a very secure investment.

This Car vs Other 2020 Pajeros

With just under 98,000 km, this Pajero sits at a healthy average for a four-year-old vehicle in the GCC, where annual distances often exceed 25,000 km. Unlike the smaller-displacement models frequently found in the used market, this 3.8L version provides the extra torque necessary for dune driving and full-load highway cruising. The white exterior is a strategic choice for the region, reflecting heat effectively and ensuring the fastest possible resale time in the local market.

GLS HIGHLINE vs Lower Trims

The Highline trim upgrades the ownership experience significantly over the base GLS, most notably replacing cloth with premium leather upholstery and adding a power-adjustable driver’s seat. It also features the upgraded Rockford Acoustic Design audio system and a factory-fitted sunroof, which are highly sought after by local buyers. Higher safety is provided via a total of six airbags, a significant jump from the dual-airbag setup found in entry-level trims.

Pajero vs Segment Rivals

The Pajero remains a favorite against rivals like the Toyota Prado and Nissan Pathfinder due to its unique Super Select II 4WD system, which allows for full-time 4WD use on dry pavement—a distinct advantage during sudden UAE rain showers. It offers a more rugged body-on-frame feel than the car-based Pathfinder, providing superior durability for those who occasionally venture off-road. Additionally, the Pajero’s third-row seats fold completely into the floor, offering a flatter cargo area than many competitors in this price bracket.

Running Costs & Resale

Expect a real-world combined fuel consumption of approximately 13.5 L/100km, which is standard for a large V6 in GCC stop-start traffic. Maintenance is among the most affordable in the SUV segment, with authorized service centers like Al Habtoor in the UAE and Al Mulla in Kuwait providing widespread support. The Pajero enjoys one of the slowest depreciation rates in the region, typically retaining a high percentage of its value even as it approaches the 100,000 km mark.

Performance & Capability

The 3.8L V6 delivers a robust 243 hp and 327 Nm of torque, providing the necessary 'crawling' power for soft sand when the 4LLc (low range with locked center diff) mode is engaged. With 225 mm of ground clearance and a 700 mm wading depth, it is mechanically prepared for both desert expeditions and seasonal wadi crossings. The independent rear suspension, a rarity for such a capable off-roader, ensures the vehicle remains stable and comfortable during long inter-city drives across the Emirates.

Comfort & Cabin

Designed for the heat, the Pajero features a powerful dual-zone climate control system with dedicated ceiling-mounted vents for both the second and third rows. The Highline cabin is finished with wood-grain accents and leather-wrapped touchpoints, creating a more executive feel for daily commutes. The flexible 7-seat layout allows the third row to be stowed away entirely, maximizing boot space for large grocery runs or camping gear.

Safety

Standard safety on this Highline trim includes Mitsubishi's Active Stability and Traction Control (ASTC), which is essential for maintaining grip on gravel and sandy surfaces. It is equipped with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) to ensure controlled stopping even under heavy loads. The inclusion of a rear-view camera and parking sensors provides added confidence when navigating tight urban parking spots in busy GCC city centers.

The bottom line

This 3.8L Highline is the ideal match for a family that needs a dependable daily driver but doesn't want to sacrifice the ability to explore the desert on weekends. It is the most complete version of a GCC legend, offering the best engine and trim combination for long-term value.
