Summary

This GCC-spec Mazda CX-9 GT offers a premium seven-seat experience that bridges the gap between mainstream SUVs and luxury brands. With mileage just under 90,000 km, it sits comfortably within the expected usage for a three-year-old vehicle in the region, particularly for a family-focused crossover. The Grey exterior is a highly practical choice for the GCC, resisting the visibility of fine desert dust better than darker tones while maintaining strong resale demand. Known for its 'Jinba Ittai' driving philosophy, this model stands out for its car-like handling and upscale cabin materials that rival more expensive European competitors. For a buyer seeking a safe, refined, and mechanically sound family vehicle, this GT trim provides the ideal balance of high-end features and Japanese reliability.

This Car vs Other 2021 CX-9s

At 89,347 km, this CX-9 has been driven roughly 30,000 km per year, which is typical for a family SUV used for school runs and inter-emirate highway commutes. The Grey paintwork is one of the most resilient colors for the local climate, ensuring it looks fresh even between washes and holds its value well in the secondary market. Being a GCC-spec model, it features the factory-upgraded cooling systems required for peak performance during the extreme summer months.

GT vs Lower Trims

The GT (Grand Touring) trim is a significant step up from the GS and GS-L variants, adding essential luxury features for the GCC. It introduces ventilated front seats, which are a necessity rather than a luxury in this region, alongside a premium 12-speaker Bose audio system. You also gain a 360° surround-view camera and a head-up display, providing better visibility and safety during busy city navigation.

CX-9 vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot, the CX-9 leads with a more premium interior finish and a turbocharged engine that offers superior low-end torque for highway overtaking. While the Nissan X-Trail is a common alternative, the CX-9 provides a more spacious and genuinely usable third row for growing families. Its 74-litre fuel tank ensures fewer stops during long-distance drives across the UAE or to neighboring countries.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.5-litre turbocharged engine is designed for efficiency, delivering approximately 8.4L/100km on the highway, though city traffic will see this increase slightly. Maintenance is straightforward thanks to Mazda's extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. The CX-9 enjoys strong value retention in the GCC, typically depreciating at a lower rate than its European luxury counterparts due to its reputation for mechanical durability.

Performance & Capability

With a verified 0–100 km/h time of 7.8 seconds, the CX-9 feels remarkably agile for a 7-seater SUV. The i-Activ All-Wheel Drive system is predictive, monitoring road conditions 200 times per second to distribute power effectively, which is particularly useful on sandy patches or during rare heavy rain. While not a desert basher, its 220 mm ground clearance is more than enough for gravel tracks and weekend camping trips.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a standout feature, utilizing acoustic glass to keep the interior quiet even at high highway speeds. The three-zone climate control includes dedicated rear vents and controls, ensuring that passengers in the back stay as cool as those in the front during July and August. GT models feature high-quality leather upholstery and an intuitive 10.25-inch infotainment display that supports seamless smartphone integration.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive with the i-Activsense suite standard on this trim, featuring adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality for relaxed highway driving. It includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and smart city brake support with pedestrian detection. The 360° camera is particularly helpful for maneuvering this large SUV into tight mall parking spaces, providing a top-down view of all surroundings.

The bottom line

This CX-9 GT is the perfect choice for a family that wants a luxury-tier cabin and sharp driving dynamics without the premium maintenance costs of a European brand. It represents a smart buy for those who prioritize safety and summer comfort in a well-maintained, GCC-ready package.
