Summary

This 2021 Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S represents the high-performance peak of the compact sedan segment, featuring the world's most powerful production four-cylinder engine. As a GCC-spec vehicle in white, it occupies the most desirable niche for resale value and climate suitability in the UAE market. While the 112,000 km mileage reflects consistent highway use over its 5 years, the S-trim upgrades provide a level of mechanical sophistication and cabin tech that rivals modern supercars. For the buyer who wants the silhouette of a coupe with the practicality of four doors and genuine track-ready power, this is a highly capable choice. This specific model stands out for its balance of aggressive AMG styling and high-speed stability on long inter-emirate drives.

This Car vs Other 2021 CLA 45s

With 112,000 km over 5 years, this vehicle has averaged approximately 22,400 km annually, which sits perfectly within the typical GCC highway usage range of 20,000 to 25,000 km per year. The white exterior is the strongest resale color in the regional market, offering superior heat reflection during peak summer months compared to darker palettes. Buyers will find this mileage typical for an executive commuter that has spent its time on well-maintained UAE motorways rather than in heavy stop-start city congestion.

S vs Lower Trims

Choosing the 'S' trim unlocks the full 421 hp potential of the M139 engine, a significant jump over the 387 hp found in the standard CLA 45. This trim adds the sophisticated AMG Torque Control rear differential with two multidisc clutches, allowing for the specialized Drift Mode and more precise torque vectoring. Inside, the S-trim typically features the enhanced MBUX infotainment with AMG-specific displays and the AMG Performance steering wheel with integrated drive-mode dials that are not standard on lower variants.

CLA 45 S vs Segment Rivals

The CLA 45 S primarily competes with the Audi RS3 Sedan and the BMW M2. While the Audi relies on its five-cylinder soundtrack, the Mercedes leads with a higher specific power output from its 2.0L unit and a more modern, tech-forward interior featuring the dual-screen cockpit. Against the M2, the CLA 45 S offers the distinct advantage of four doors and a more usable boot, making it a far superior choice for those who need a daily driver that can still perform at Yas Marina Circuit.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption typically averages between 8.1L and 9.3L/100km, though spirited driving in GCC conditions will see these figures rise. The car requires 98 RON premium fuel to maintain its high-performance timing and engine health. As a GCC-spec model, it benefits from the full authorized Mercedes-Benz service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring parts availability remains high. While European performance sedans generally depreciate by 12-18% annually, the S-trim's rarity and 'world's most powerful 4-cylinder' status help it retain a premium over standard CLA models.

Performance & Capability

The standout figure is the 4.0-second 0-100 km/h sprint, enabled by the lightning-fast AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 8-speed transmission and 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. This setup provides exceptional high-speed stability and confidence during highway overtaking, even in heavy wind or rain. The car features multiple drive modes that transform it from a civilised city cruiser to a firm, aggressive track tool at the touch of a button. Its top speed is electronically limited to 270 km/h, highlighting its engineering headroom compared to standard compact sedans.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a blend of luxury and motorsport, featuring AMG performance seats that provide excellent lateral support during high-G cornering. The powerful Mercedes-Benz climate control system is engineered for the 45 degree-plus temperatures of the region, ensuring the 5-seat cabin remains cool even in mid-summer. The interior tech is dominated by the MBUX system with voice control, and the ambient lighting package allows for a highly personalized night-driving experience across the Emirates.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes a comprehensive suite of ADAS features such as Active Brake Assist, Blind Spot Assist—crucial for fast-moving multi-lane highway traffic—and Lane Keeping Assist. The 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system acts as a primary safety feature in the GCC, providing superior traction on sand-dusted roads or during occasional heavy thunderstorms. Multiple airbags and a rigid body structure ensure a high level of passive protection for all five occupants.

The bottom line

This CLA 45 S is the ideal opportunity for an enthusiast buyer who values the prestige of a hand-built AMG engine and the resale security of a white, GCC-spec vehicle. It offers supercar-rivaling performance in a package that is perfectly suited for daily use across the UAE's highway network.
