Summary

This 2021 Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S represents the high-water mark for compact performance, featuring the most powerful series-production four-cylinder engine ever made. Finished in a classic black that commands high resale value in the UAE, this S-trim model offers a significant power and tech bump over the standard CLA 45. While the mileage reflects active use, the AMG-built M139 engine is engineered for durability and high-performance longevity, making it a sharp choice for those who value mechanical pedigree. It stands as a visceral alternative to the Audi RS3, offering a more aggressive chassis setup and a hand-assembled engine. For a GCC buyer, this provides a world-class performance daily driver that feels just as at home on the E11 as it does on a weekend blast through the mountains.

This Car vs Other 2021 CLA 45 AMG S

At 122,000 km, this vehicle has been driven more than the typical 20,000 km per year average in the GCC market, which often indicates frequent highway use—generally easier on the transmission and brakes than stop-start city traffic. The black exterior is a premier resale color in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring it remains highly desirable in the pre-owned market. Given its 2021 model year, you benefit from the fully matured MBUX infotainment suite and the refined 8-speed dual-clutch calibration.

S vs Lower Trims

The S-trim is a comprehensive upgrade over the base CLA 45, most notably increasing output from 387 hp to 421 hp and unlocking a higher top speed of 270 km/h. It standardizes the AMG Dynamic Plus package, adding the specialized 'Drift Mode' and larger 6-piston front brake calipers with red paint. Inside, the S-trim typically includes the AMG Performance steering wheel with integrated drive unit buttons, allowing you to toggle suspension and exhaust modes without taking your hands off the wheel.

CLA 45 AMG S vs Segment Rivals

Against the Audi RS3 and BMW M2, the CLA 45 S leads with its specialized 4MATIC+ system, which features rear-axle torque vectoring for superior agility in tight corners. Its 460-liter boot provides more practical cargo space than its peers, making it a better dual-purpose performance sedan for cross-border trips. Furthermore, the hand-built 'One Man, One Engine' philosophy offers a level of exclusivity and craftsmanship that the mass-produced engines in rivals cannot match.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption averages around 8.3 L/100km on the highway, though this will increase in heavy GCC city traffic. The 4MATIC+ system and high-output engine require strict adherence to the 15,000 km service intervals, which are well-supported by authorized service centers across the UAE, Oman, and Qatar. While European performance cars experience steeper initial depreciation, the CLA 45 S retains its value better than the standard CLA range due to its collector-grade engine and high demand among local enthusiasts.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this car is the M139 engine, which delivers a staggering 211 hp per liter, allowing for a blistering 0-100 km/h time of 4.0 seconds. The 8-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT dual-clutch transmission provides lightning-fast gear changes, essential for quick overtakes on fast-moving UAE highways. With selectable AMG Ride Control suspension, the car can transition from a firm, track-ready weapon to a composed cruiser suitable for long drives between Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior features a high-tech performance cockpit with dual 10.25-inch displays running the MBUX system with AMG-specific telemetry. Mercedes-Benz's powerful air conditioning system is well-regarded for its ability to handle 45°C+ summer peaks, keeping the cabin chilled even during the hottest months. AMG performance seats provide excellent lateral support during spirited driving while remaining comfortable enough for long-distance regional travel.

Safety

This trim includes a comprehensive safety suite featuring Active Brake Assist, Blind Spot Assist, and Lane Keeping Assist, which are particularly valuable on multi-lane GCC highways. The 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system provides exceptional stability on varying road surfaces, including sand-dusted asphalt. Additionally, the high-performance braking system ensures short stopping distances even when driving at higher highway speeds.

The bottom line

This is a rare opportunity to own a hand-built AMG powerhouse in a high-resale color, perfect for the enthusiast who wants supercar acceleration in a practical four-door body.
