Mercedes Benz G500 STANDARD

Highlights

• 0–100 km/h in 5.9 seconds
• Low-range transfer case with locking differentials
• 3,500 kg braked towing capacity

Summary

This G500 offers a compelling opportunity for buyers seeking the iconic G-Wagon presence without the aggressive maintenance profile of an AMG. At five years old with 108,000 km, its mileage sits right at the GCC annual average, suggesting it's been a regular commuter rather than a stationary showpiece. The blue exterior is a sophisticated departure from the common monochrome palette, though it requires slightly more care for maximum resale value compared to silver. As a European spec, it benefits from a highly documented build and premium interior materials often reserved for its home market. This is the ideal choice for those who value the 421 hp V8's smooth power delivery during long-distance highway cruising between Emirates.

This Car vs Other 2021 G500s

With 108,000 km on the clock, this vehicle aligns closely with the expected 20,000–25,000 km annual use common in the GCC, indicating consistent mechanical health and highway-heavy driving. While GCC-spec units typically command a premium for their local cooling, European imports like this one often attract enthusiasts for their specific trim combinations and stringent initial maintenance standards. The blue finish is a distinctive choice that stands out in Dubai or Abu Dhabi's white-dominated parking lots while maintaining respectable desirability.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

The G500 'Standard' trim is anything but basic, effectively serving as the entry point to the V8 G-Class range. It includes the 12.3-inch digital cockpit and the 64-color ambient lighting suite as standard, features that GCC buyers frequently prioritize for nighttime driving. Crucially, it retains the triple-locking differential hardware and high-quality leather upholstery found in the AMG models, providing the full G-Wagon experience with a more road-compliant suspension setup.

G500 vs Segment Rivals

The G500 is frequently cross-shopped with the Range Rover Autobiography and the Lexus LX 570. While the Lexus offers a broader service network in rural GCC areas, the G500 leads with its unmistakable road presence and a robust 100-liter fuel tank that is perfect for the long Riyadh-to-Jeddah or Dubai-to-Muscat stretches. Its body-on-frame construction provides a level of durability in desert conditions that monocoque rivals struggle to match over long-term ownership.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.0L V8 typically averages around 12–14 L/100km in mixed driving, though GCC summer traffic with max AC will see that figure rise. As a European spec car, buyers should ensure the radiator and AC system are inspected for the local climate, as it lacks the 'Hot Climate' oversized cooling of a GCC-spec unit. Resale value for the G-Class remains among the highest in the UAE luxury market, typically depreciating at a slower rate than its European rivals, often retaining over 65% of its value even after five years.

Performance & Capability

The standout figure is the 610 Nm of torque, which allows this SUV to reach 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds—surprising speed for a vehicle with such a blocky profile. Its off-road credentials are legitimate, featuring a dedicated low-range transfer case and three independent 100% differential locks (Front, Center, Rear) that can be engaged on the fly. Whether navigating deep sand during a desert weekend or overtaking at 140 km/h on the E11, the V8 provides effortless, refined muscle.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the 5-seat cabin is insulated with thick acoustic glass, effectively silencing the desert wind noise during high-speed travel. The tri-zone climate control ensures rear passengers remain comfortable, a necessity for family road trips in the Gulf. This particular European spec includes the high-resolution dual-screen MBUX interface, offering a modern, tech-forward environment that remains cool and luxurious even when the outside temperature exceeds 45°C.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes a comprehensive suite of 8 airbags and Mercedes-Benz's Pre-Safe system. For GCC highway driving, the active lane-keeping assist and blind-spot monitoring are invaluable tools in fast-moving, multi-lane traffic. The vehicle also features high-performance LED headlights that provide exceptional visibility during unlit desert highway stretches at night.

The bottom line

This G500 is perfect for the executive or family buyer who wants the status and off-road capability of a G-Class without the harsh ride of the G63. It is a well-traveled, honest example of the world's most recognizable SUV.
