Summary

This S 580 4MATIC offers a significant performance step-up over the standard six-cylinder models, featuring the smooth and powerful 4.0-litre V8 that executive buyers in the GCC demand. With mileage that aligns perfectly with the regional average for a five-year-old luxury flagship, this sedan has been utilized primarily for the long highway commutes it was designed for. The silver exterior is a practical choice for the UAE climate, resisting heat absorption better than darker tones while maintaining strong resale demand in the local market. As the first year of the W223 generation, this car features the latest MBUX tech and interior architecture that still feels current today. The presence of 4MATIC all-wheel drive provides essential stability and grip for both high-speed highway cruising and occasional rain-slicked city streets.

This Car vs Other 2021 S 580s

With 76,677 km on the odometer, this vehicle sits comfortably within the expected range for a 5-year-old luxury sedan in the GCC, where annual averages often reach 20,000 km due to inter-emirate travel. The silver finish is one of the most resilient colors for the local environment, hiding dust well and sustaining its luster better than black or white under the intense Gulf sun. Compared to others on the market, this example presents a balanced profile of use and age, making it a reliable candidate for a pre-owned flagship.

4MATIC vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to the S 580 over the S 500 grants you a significant jump to the 4.0-litre V8, providing the effortless torque necessary for smooth highway overtaking. This trim also includes premium leather upholstery and a 15-speaker Burmester 3D Surround Sound system as standard, features that are often optional on lower configurations. Furthermore, the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system is paired with Airmatic air suspension, ensuring the ride remains composed regardless of the road surface.

S 580 vs Segment Rivals

The S 580 leads rivals like the BMW 7 Series and Audi A8 in cabin technology, featuring a massive 12.8-inch OLED central display that is more intuitive for daily use. Its mild-hybrid V8 provides a more refined stop-start experience in heavy Riyadh or Dubai traffic compared to the traditional powertrains found in some Lexus LS models. Additionally, the Mercedes-Benz rear-seat experience remains the benchmark for legroom and seat comfort in the executive segment.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this V8 averages around 14.4 L/100km in the city and 9.4 L/100km on the highway, making it a capable long-distance cruiser between GCC capitals. As a highly desirable luxury brand in the region, the S-Class enjoys a robust resale market, typically retaining its value better than its European competitors over a 3-year period. Authorized service centers are widely available across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring specialized care and parts availability are never an issue for the owner.

Performance & Capability

Despite its substantial size, the S 580 accelerates from 0–100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds, delivering power with the seamless grace expected of a flagship. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 is augmented by an EQ Boost mild-hybrid system, providing an additional 184 lb-ft of torque for instant responsiveness at low speeds. With an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h and selectable drive modes, it transitions effortlessly from a quiet city cruiser to a high-speed trans-emirate express.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a sanctuary of tech and comfort, featuring heated and ventilated front seats with massage functions to combat the summer heat. The MBUX system includes augmented reality navigation and a fingerprint sensor for personalized driver profiles, while the fragrance atomizer and ambient lighting create a premium atmosphere. Double-glazed acoustic glass ensures the interior remains whisper-quiet even at high highway speeds, isolating passengers from wind and road noise.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on this 4MATIC trim includes a comprehensive ADAS suite with active brake assist, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist, all of which are invaluable on the region's fast-moving multi-lane highways. It also features a 360-degree camera system for easy maneuvering in tight parking spaces and a suite of advanced airbags, including innovative rear-seat frontal airbags. The Distronic adaptive cruise control makes long desert drives significantly less taxing for the driver.

The bottom line

This S 580 4MATIC is the ideal choice for a professional looking for the prestige and V8 performance of the current generation S-Class without the initial depreciation of a brand-new model.
