Summary

This 2021 S 580 4MATIC represents the benchmark for executive luxury, offering a smooth twin-turbo V8 powertrain paired with Mercedes' sophisticated all-wheel-drive system. In the GCC market, the black exterior remains a premier choice for high-end resale, perfectly complementing the flagship's presence in professional environments. With 55,000 km, this sedan sits at an ideal point for a pre-owned purchase, having bypassed the steepest initial depreciation while remaining mechanically fresh for the region's high-speed highways. For a buyer in the Emirates, this model bridges the gap between digital innovation and traditional German refinement better than any other in its class. Ensuring the imported Korean spec has been vetted for the local climate is the single most important step for a trouble-free ownership experience in the Gulf.

This Car vs Other 2021 S 580s

With 55,000 km on the odometer, this S 580 is slightly below the typical average for a three-year-old executive sedan in the GCC, where 25,000 km per year is common due to long-distance commuting. The black exterior is the most sought-after color in the local luxury segment, ensuring it maintains a stronger resale profile than brighter or niche finishes. This specific mileage indicates the vehicle has been used for its intended purpose without the excessive wear often seen on high-mileage regional cruisers.

4MATIC vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to the S 580 4MATIC over the six-cylinder S 500 adds the essential 4.0-litre V8, providing the effortless torque necessary for smooth highway overtaking in fast-moving UAE traffic. This trim also typically standardizes Nappa leather and provides access to the Executive Line features that GCC buyers prioritize, such as superior rear-seat climate controls and massage functions. The 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system is standard here, providing significantly better stability during the rare but heavy rain showers experienced across the Emirates.

S 580 vs Segment Rivals

Against the BMW 7 Series and Audi A8, the S 580 leads in cabin technology, featuring the standout 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen and a more advanced augmented reality navigation system. Its air suspension system is tuned for a softer, more isolated ride than the sportier BMW, making it the preferred choice for those who value cabin quietness on the long stretch between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. While rivals offer similar power, the Mercedes S-Class remains the regional gold standard for executive presence and prestige.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the twin-turbo V8 averages approximately 14.4 L/100km in city traffic and drops to 9.4 L/100km on the highway, reflecting the efficiency of the 48V mild-hybrid system. As a Korean spec vehicle, buyers should note that while mechanical parts are widely available through independent specialists across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, authorized dealer warranty support may differ from GCC-spec cars. The S-Class historically sees a depreciation of 12-18% annually in the GCC, though black V8 models generally hold their value better than smaller-engine variants.

Performance & Capability

The S 580 delivers a verified 0–100 km/h time of 4.4 seconds, an impressive figure that allows this large sedan to keep pace with dedicated sports cars. The 503 hp V8 engine is designed for silent, high-speed cruising, reaching an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h with total composure. The 9-speed automatic transmission is optimized for the long highway runs common in the GCC, ensuring the engine remains at low RPMs to maximize comfort and reduce cabin vibration.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a sanctuary from the Gulf heat, featuring a high-capacity climate control system with a fragrance atomizer and standard ventilated front seats to combat summer temperatures. The OLED central display and 12.3-inch digital cluster provide a highly customizable interface for the MBUX system, which is capable of learning driver preferences over time. With standard acoustic glass and extensive insulation, the interior remains remarkably quiet even at high speeds on the E11 highway.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive with a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems, including Pre-Safe Impulse Side which can raise the car body if a side collision is detected. Standard features like 360-degree cameras and active blind-spot monitoring are invaluable for navigating the multi-lane highways and tight parking environments of major GCC cities. The vehicle is also equipped with rear-seat airbags, a pioneering feature in this generation that offers enhanced protection for all five passengers.

The bottom line

This S 580 4MATIC is the perfect choice for an executive looking for flagship luxury and V8 power at a more accessible price point than a new GCC-spec model.
