Summary

This MG RX8 Luxury presents a robust opportunity for GCC families seeking a seven-seater with genuine off-road capability. At four years old, the mileage reflects its life as a long-distance cruiser, a task the RX8 handles well thanks to its body-on-frame construction and stable highway manners. The Luxury trim is highly sought after in the used market because it adds the ventilated seats and panoramic sunroof that are essential for local climate comfort. In a market where white is the strongest resale color, this specific listing is positioned to hold its value better than darker alternatives. For those balancing school runs in Dubai with weekend trips to the desert, the RX8 offers a distinctive blend of space and durability.

This Car vs Other 2022 RX8s

With 150,000 km, this vehicle has been driven more than the typical 20,000–25,000 km annual GCC average, suggesting it was primarily used for inter-emirate highway travel. While the mileage is higher than some listings, it often indicates the car was used for the long-distance cruising it was designed for rather than short, engine-stressing city hops. The white exterior is the most popular choice in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring this car remains easy to trade or sell when you are ready to upgrade.

LUXURY vs Lower Trims

Choosing the Luxury trim provides a significant jump in daily usability over the Comfort or Standard models, most notably with the 360-degree camera and 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the Luxury trim introduces ventilated front seats, a must-have for the 45°C+ summer months, along with a panoramic sunroof and an 8-speaker audio system. It also includes the rear differential lock, which is the key differentiator for anyone planning to take their family into the dunes.

RX8 vs Segment Rivals

The RX8 competes directly with the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Montero Sport by offering a similar truck-based ladder frame for better durability. It leads many rivals in interior volume, specifically offering one of the most usable third rows in its price bracket, making it a favorite for larger families. Additionally, the 10-inch screen with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto provides a more modern tech interface than many base-spec Japanese competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this 2.0L turbo engine typically averages around 11.5 L/100km in mixed GCC conditions, though highway cruising can drop this to 9.9 L/100km. The large 70-liter fuel tank is a genuine benefit for the long stretches of road between Riyadh and Dammam or Dubai and Salalah. MG has a rapidly expanding authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, with standard service intervals every 10,000 km. While it depreciates faster than a Land Cruiser, the lower initial entry price makes it a high-value choice for 3-5 year ownership cycles.

Performance & Capability

The 224 hp turbocharged engine delivers a respectable 0–100 km/h time of 9.1 seconds, providing enough punch for confident highway overtaking. Its 202 mm ground clearance and 4WD system with selectable terrain modes make it surprisingly capable in the sand and gravel. Unlike road-biased crossovers, the RX8’s body-on-frame structure means it can handle the physical stress of light off-roading without the rattles associated with monocoque SUVs. The 6-speed automatic is tuned for reliability and smooth shifts rather than aggressive performance, fitting its role as a family workhorse.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is configured for seven passengers, with a layout that prioritizes shoulder room and visibility. The Luxury trim’s leather interior is complemented by dual-zone climate control with dedicated vents for the second and third rows, ensuring the cabin cools down quickly even after being parked in the sun. Acoustic glass helps isolate the cabin from wind noise during high-speed highway travel, making long family road trips much less fatiguing. The flat-folding rear seats allow for a massive cargo area when the third row is not in use.

Safety

Safety is well-handled in the Luxury trim with a suite of features including 6 airbags, Lane Departure Warning, and Electronic Stability Program (ESP). The inclusion of Hill Descent Control and Active Rollover Protection is particularly valuable for GCC drivers who venture off-road. The 360-degree camera system is standard on this trim, making the nearly 5-meter-long SUV much easier to navigate in tight city parking structures in Abu Dhabi or Dubai.

The bottom line

This 2022 MG RX8 Luxury is the ideal match for a growing family that needs maximum features and seating at a fraction of the cost of Japanese rivals. While the mileage is higher than average, the Luxury spec and strong GCC service support make it a practical, high-value choice for today's market.
