Summary

This 2021 Fortuner EXR represents a pragmatic choice for GCC drivers, offering a low-mileage profile that sits well below the typical 25,000 km annual average for the region. Finished in black, a staple for strong resale in the UAE and Saudi markets, this body-on-frame SUV provides the durability required for both desert weekends and daily urban commuting. The 2.7L powertrain is a regional favorite for its mechanical simplicity and ease of maintenance across the Emirates. For the buyer who prioritizes long-term reliability and a predictable ownership experience, this GCC-spec Fortuner is a standout option.

This Car vs Other 2021 Toyota Fortuners

With just 33,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle has been driven significantly less than the average 2021 model in the GCC, which typically reaches 60,000 km to 75,000 km by this stage. The black exterior is a high-demand choice in the local market, ensuring it remains attractive to future buyers. Choosing a low-mileage, GCC-spec example provides a distinct advantage in mechanical longevity and cooling system health compared to higher-mileage alternatives.

EXR vs Lower Trims

As the foundational trim in the GCC lineup, the EXR focuses on essential utility while still providing the core 4WD hardware found in higher grades. It features 17-inch alloy wheels and durable fabric seating designed to withstand the intense local summer heat better than darker leather. While it lacks the power-operated tailgate of the VXR, it retains the critical rear air conditioning system with dedicated vents that are mandatory for passenger comfort in the Gulf climate.

Fortuner vs Segment Rivals

The Fortuner leads rivals like the Mitsubishi Montero Sport and Nissan X-Terra in terms of sheer serviceability and parts availability across the entire GCC. Its body-on-frame construction, shared with the legendary Hilux, gives it a durability edge on gravel tracks and desert dunes that monocoque competitors cannot match. Additionally, the 80-litre fuel tank provides a superior range for long-distance hauls between cities like Dubai and Muscat.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.7L engine averages around 12.4 L/100km, reflecting the stop-start nature of GCC city traffic. Toyota remains the gold standard for value retention in the region, typically depreciating at a much slower rate than American or European counterparts. Authorized service centers are ubiquitous across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, with standard service intervals every 10,000 km ensuring the vehicle remains in peak condition for the local environment.

Performance & Capability

Equipped with a selectable 4WD system and 216 mm of ground clearance, this SUV is built to handle the diverse terrains of the Middle East, from coastal sands to rocky wadis. The 2.7L four-cylinder engine is tuned for reliability and steady torque delivery, making it a dependable partner for highway cruising at regional speed limits. Its approach and departure angles allow for confident weekend exploring without the complexity of more fragile electronic systems.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout is highly versatile, featuring a third row that folds to the sides to maximize boot space for camping gear or family groceries. In the GCC, the most vital cabin feature is the powerful dual-zone air conditioning, which includes dedicated ceiling-mounted vents for both the second and third rows. The cabin is designed with hard-wearing materials that resist UV degradation, ensuring the interior stays looking fresh despite the intense local sun.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on this GCC-spec trim includes dual front airbags and a driver’s knee airbag for enhanced protection. Active safety is supported by Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC), which are particularly effective when navigating shifting sand or slippery surfaces during the rainy season. Rear parking sensors are standard, assisting with visibility during city parking in tight urban spaces.

The bottom line

Perfect for the value-conscious family or weekend adventurer, this low-mileage Fortuner offers the ultimate peace of mind through Toyota’s unmatched GCC service network and legendary resale strength.
