Summary

This 2022 BMW X5 xDrive40i in Exclusive M Sport trim offers a compelling balance of performance and practicality for the GCC market. With 56,000 km, it sits below the typical mileage for its age in the region, where long highway commutes are common. The black-on-black color combination remains one of the most sought-after for resale in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring strong value retention. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it is fully optimized for extreme summer heat with a robust cooling system and powerful air conditioning. This model stands out for its car-like handling and executive cabin finish, making it a premier choice for those transitioning from a luxury sedan to a versatile SUV.

This Car vs Other 2022 X5s

At 56,000 km, this X5 has been driven significantly less than the 60,000–75,000 km typically expected for a three-year-old vehicle in the GCC. The Black exterior is a high-demand choice in the local market, offering a professional aesthetic and a faster path to resale compared to niche colors. Choosing a GCC-spec model over imported alternatives ensures that the infotainment, navigation, and radiator are correctly configured for local infrastructure and temperatures.

Exclusive M Sport Package vs Lower Trims

The Exclusive M Sport Package adds significant value over the base xDrive40i, including a more aggressive M aerodynamic body kit and high-gloss Shadowline trim. Inside, you benefit from a premium Harman Kardon surround sound system and a large Head-up Display that projects vital information onto the windshield—a key feature for high-speed highway driving. This trim also typically includes upgraded Vernasca leather and multi-contour front seats that offer superior support on long journeys.

X5 vs Segment Rivals

The BMW X5 leads the Mercedes-Benz GLE and Audi Q7 in driver engagement, offering more precise steering and a more responsive 8-speed ZF transmission. While rivals focus heavily on soft suspension, the X5 provides a balanced ride that handles the UAE's winding mountain roads and city flyovers with greater agility. Its iDrive 7.0 system is widely considered the most intuitive interface in the luxury SUV segment, featuring a dual 12.3-inch display setup.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.0L inline-six averages approximately 10.4 L/100km, which is efficient for a 300+ horsepower SUV on long GCC highway runs. Maintenance is straightforward with a massive network of authorized BMW service centers across all major GCC cities, from Dubai to Riyadh. The X5 xDrive40i sits in the 'depreciation sweet spot' of the range, losing value less aggressively than the V8 or Hybrid variants due to its high demand in the secondary market.

Performance & Capability

Equipped with BMW’s legendary B58 3.0-liter turbocharged engine, this X5 delivers a verified 335 hp and can reach 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds. The xDrive all-wheel-drive system provides exceptional traction on sand-blown tarmac and during occasional gravel excursions for weekend camping trips. Despite its size, the M Sport-tuned suspension ensures it stays flat through corners, providing a confident feel during high-speed overtakes on the E11.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat layout provides ample legroom and a generous 650-liter boot, perfect for family road trips across emirates. The GCC-specific climate control system is designed to reach comfortable temperatures rapidly even after the car has been parked in direct sun. Premium materials like the glass-effect controls and ambient lighting create a high-end executive atmosphere that feels significantly more modern than many competitors.

Safety

Standard safety features on this trim include BMW's Active Driving Assistant, which provides lane departure warnings, frontal collision alerts, and blind-spot detection—essential for the fast-paced traffic of the GCC. The 360-degree camera and parking sensors make navigating tight city parking in downtown areas effortless. Additionally, the X5's robust construction and multiple airbags contribute to its reputation as one of the safest vehicles in the midsize luxury category.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec X5 is an ideal pick for an executive or family looking for a low-mileage, high-spec SUV that balances German performance with proven local reliability.
