• 750 Nm of torque
• 83-litre fuel tank

Summary

This 2022 BMW X5 M Competition represents the absolute peak of the mid-sized SUV performance segment, offering a level of track-ready capability that rivals dedicated sports cars. With its high-performance V8 and sophisticated M xDrive, it is perfectly suited for the fast-paced highway commutes between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This specific example features the highly desirable Blue exterior, a color that consistently commands strong interest in the GCC used market. The mileage is consistent with typical executive use in the region, ensuring the mechanical components have been regularly cycled through their operating temperatures. For the buyer who needs family practicality without sacrificing the visceral feel of an M-division thoroughbred, this is the definitive choice.

This Car vs Other 2022 X5 Ms

With approximately 75,000 km, this vehicle has been driven slightly more than the global average but sits right at the expected baseline for a performance SUV in the GCC, where long-distance highway trips are standard. The Blue exterior is a refreshing and high-resale alternative to the common silver and white palettes found across the Emirates. Its GCC-spec status ensures the cooling systems and air conditioning are factory-optimized for the extreme local summers.

COMPETITION vs Lower Trims

The Competition trim is not just an appearance package; it increases output to 625 hp (verified for GCC models) and adds the M Sport exhaust system for a more aggressive acoustic signature. It also features staggered 21-inch front and 22-inch rear M Star-spoke wheels and the M Seat belts with signature stitching. Most importantly for the local climate, this trim often includes the high-performance cooling upgrades necessary for consistent power delivery during July and August.

X5 M vs Segment Rivals

The X5 M Competition leads rivals like the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S in chassis precision and driver engagement, feeling significantly more planted on winding roads. Its 83-litre fuel tank provides a greater range for trans-emirate drives compared to some smaller-capacity competitors. The interior technology, centered around BMW's iDrive system, remains the most intuitive interface for navigating GCC cities.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption typically averages between 12.8 and 13.1 L/100km, though this will increase in stop-start Dubai traffic. BMW's extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait makes maintenance straightforward, with recommended service intervals occurring every 10,000 to 12,000 km. While M-models see steeper initial depreciation than standard X5s, the Competition trim holds its value significantly better due to its high demand among local enthusiasts.

Performance & Capability

The 4.4L Twin-Power Turbo V8 delivers a staggering 750 Nm of torque, allowing for effortless overtaking at highway speeds. The M-specific xDrive system is rear-biased, providing the feel of a sports car with the security of all-wheel traction on sand-dusted road surfaces. The adaptive M suspension allows you to toggle between a comfortable daily cruiser and a stiff, track-ready weapon at the touch of the M-buttons on the steering wheel.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, you are met with M Multifunction seats that provide exceptional lateral support and are designed to stay comfortable during long drives to Al Ain or Fujairah. The cabin is heavily insulated, keeping the fierce GCC heat out while the quad-zone climate control maintains a steady chill for all passengers. Premium materials, including carbon fiber trim and extended Merino leather, create a cockpit environment that feels distinct from the standard BMW range.

Safety

This trim comes standard with a comprehensive suite of safety tech including Frontal Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Blind Spot Detection, which is invaluable for the multi-lane highways of the UAE. The 360-degree Surround View camera system makes parking this large SUV in tight city malls effortless. Adaptive LED headlights with BMW Laserlight technology provide exceptional visibility during nighttime desert highway transits.

The bottom line

This X5 M Competition is the perfect acquisition for a performance-minded professional who needs a GCC-ready SUV that can transition from the school run to a spirited weekend drive without a hint of compromise.
