Summary

This 2022 Chevrolet Malibu LT offers a refined balance of modern efficiency and mid-size practicality, making it a smart choice for daily commuting in the GCC. With just 42,000 km, this sedan sits well below the average mileage for its age, promising many more years of reliable service. The beige exterior is a neutral, sun-friendly choice for the local climate and typically holds its appeal well in the secondary market. Compared to rivals, the Malibu stands out for its smooth ride quality and impressive highway range, perfectly suited for long drives between cities. For a GCC buyer, the strong local service network ensures that parts and maintenance remain straightforward and accessible.

This Car vs Other 2022 Malibus

With 42,000 km on the odometer, this Malibu has been driven significantly less than the typical 20,000–25,000 km per year seen in the GCC market. This lower-than-average usage means less wear on the suspension and interior, providing a fresh driving experience. The beige finish is particularly effective at reflecting heat during peak summer months, a practical advantage that local buyers often prioritize.

LT vs Lower Trims

The LT trim is a substantial step up from the base LS, adding critical comfort features for the region such as dual-zone automatic climate control and rear console air vents to keep all passengers cool. It also upgrades the exterior with 17-inch aluminum wheels and LED daytime running lamps, alongside heated power-adjustable mirrors that enhance visibility and convenience.

Malibu vs Segment Rivals

The Malibu competes directly with the Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima, leading with a highly compliant suspension that handles uneven city roads and highway expansions with more composure. Its 60-litre fuel tank provides a generous cruising range, making it an excellent companion for long-distance desert highway runs. The interior layout is focused on intuitive technology, offering wireless smartphone integration that many rivals in this year only offered as a wired option.

Running Costs & Resale

The 1.5L turbocharged engine delivers a combined fuel economy of approximately 7.4 L/100km, which translates to excellent savings during stop-start traffic in major GCC hubs. Chevrolet maintains an extensive authorized service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring competitive maintenance costs. The Malibu generally follows a steady depreciation curve of about 12-15% annually, similar to other American sedans in this class, making it a predictable value proposition.

Performance & Capability

Equipped with 163 hp and a smooth CVT, this sedan is tuned for effortless highway cruising rather than aggressive sprinting. The turbocharged engine provides peak torque early in the rev range, which is particularly useful for confident overtaking on fast-moving multi-lane roads. Its front-wheel-drive configuration is paired with electronic stability control to maintain composure during occasional high-wind sand conditions on open highways.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for long-distance comfort, featuring premium cloth seating for five and a quiet interior insulated against road noise. The dual-zone climate system is a standout, allowing the driver and passenger to maintain their own temperature settings even in the intense heat. Practicality is a major draw here, with 445 litres of boot space easily accommodating family luggage or large grocery runs.

Safety

Standard safety features include a comprehensive 10-airbag system and a high-definition rear vision camera that makes parking in tight city spots effortless. The Malibu also features StabiliTrak electronic stability control and traction control, which provide vital assistance when navigating slippery surfaces or sudden lane changes on the highway. Teen Driver technology is also standard, allowing owners to set speed alerts and volume limits for secondary drivers.

The bottom line

For the buyer seeking a low-mileage, modern sedan that prioritizes passenger comfort and fuel economy, this Malibu LT is a highly sensible opportunity in today's market.
