Summary

This 2022 GMC Terrain SLE offers a practical entry into the premium crossover segment, balancing American styling with a fuel-efficient 1.5L turbocharged powertrain. As a GCC-spec model, it is factory-prepared for the region's intense summer heat, ensuring reliable cooling and engine performance during long highway stretches. The silver exterior is a top-tier choice for the UAE and wider GCC markets, providing excellent heat reflection and maintaining high resale liquidity. With its focus on safety and efficient city-to-highway commuting, this Terrain is a sensible choice for those who want GMC presence without the running costs of a full-size SUV.

This Car vs Other 2022 Terrains

With 146,000 km, this Terrain reflects an active driving history typical of GCC commuters who cover long distances between cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. While higher than average for its age, these highway kilometers often lead to less wear on brakes and transmissions compared to stop-start city vehicles. The silver finish remains one of the most sought-after colors in the local used market due to its durability against dust and high resale value.

SLE vs Lower Trims

The SLE serves as the essential entry point for the 2022 facelifted model, coming standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto—a significant upgrade for the 2022 model year. Unlike basic fleet-oriented SUVs, the SLE includes the GMC Pro Safety suite and the signature C-shaped LED lighting, ensuring it maintains the premium GMC aesthetic found in higher trims.

Terrain vs Segment Rivals

The Terrain leads many rivals like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V in standard safety tech, offering the GMC Pro Safety suite at the entry level. Its 838-liter boot capacity is exceptionally competitive for the compact crossover class, providing more vertical loading space than several Japanese competitors. Additionally, the 9-speed automatic transmission offers a smoother, more refined highway experience than the CVTs commonly found in this segment.

Running Costs & Resale

The 1.5L turbocharged engine is designed for efficiency, delivering a manufacturer-official 6.3 L/100km, which helps manage fuel costs during long-distance GCC driving. GMC maintains a widespread service network through authorized dealers like Al Ghandi and Bin Hamoodah, ensuring parts are readily available across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. While it depreciates slightly faster than some Japanese rivals, the 2022 facelifted models hold value well due to their updated technology and modern styling.

Performance & Capability

The 170 hp turbocharged engine is optimized for low-end torque, making city overtaking effortless while maintaining a top speed of 200 km/h. Its 9-speed automatic transmission is specifically tuned for smooth shifts, which is highly appreciated on long trans-emirate highway drives. With a 680 kg towing capacity, it remains capable of handling light recreational trailers for weekend trips.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin features GMC’s unique Electronic Precision Shift button system, which frees up significant space in the center console for storage. Rear passengers benefit from dedicated air conditioning vents, a crucial feature for maintaining comfort during the peak GCC summer months. The fold-flat seating includes a front-passenger seat that folds down entirely, allowing for the transport of long items like IKEA furniture or sports gear.

Safety

Standard safety is a priority, featuring GMC Pro Safety which includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning. These systems are particularly valuable on fast-moving GCC highways where maintaining lane discipline is essential for safety. The vehicle also comes equipped with a High Definition Rear Vision Camera to assist in tight city parking.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec Terrain SLE is the ideal match for a buyer seeking a modern, safety-conscious SUV that excels in fuel economy for daily long-distance commuting. It offers a premium American aesthetic and updated 2022 tech at a more accessible price point than the higher Denali trims.
