Summary

This 2022 Kia Sorento SX represents a balanced choice for families who need seven-seat versatility without the footprint of a full-size SUV. With 69,000 km, its mileage sits well within the average for a two-year-old vehicle in the GCC, suggesting consistent use on well-maintained roads. The Grey exterior is a highly practical and resilient color for the local climate, maintaining a clean appearance against dust while offering solid resale appeal. This specific trim bridges the gap between essential utility and luxury, offering premium cabin tech that rivals more expensive European crossovers. For GCC buyers, the combination of a reliable naturally aspirated powertrain and Kia's expansive service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia ensures long-term peace of mind.

This Car vs Other 2022 Sorentos

At 69,000 km, this vehicle aligns perfectly with the typical GCC driving profile of roughly 25,000–30,000 km per year, indicating healthy highway use rather than abrasive stop-start city wear. While many 2022 models in the market are entry-level LX trims, this SX variant offers a significantly more modern interior experience. The Grey finish is a strategic choice for the region, as it hides the inevitable desert dust better than black while retaining higher resale value than niche colors.

SX vs Lower Trims

The SX trim introduces several high-demand features that are absent on the S and LX trims, most notably the expansive 10.25-inch touchscreen with integrated navigation and the large panoramic sunroof that transforms the cabin feel. It also upgrades the exterior with 20-inch gloss black wheels and projector LED headlights, providing a more premium road presence. Inside, the inclusion of a power-adjustable passenger seat and the Smart Power Liftgate adds a level of daily convenience that GCC families prioritize.

Sorento vs Segment Rivals

The Sorento is frequently cross-shopped with the Toyota Highlander and Mitsubishi Outlander. It leads its rivals in terms of interior tech integration, offering a more intuitive user interface and a higher standard of cabin materials for the price point. While the Highlander is a strong competitor, the Sorento provides a more car-like driving experience and easier parking in tight urban environments like Downtown Dubai or Riyadh's business districts.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.5L engine is designed for durability and is well-suited to the region’s high-sulfur fuel grades, typically requiring routine servicing every 10,000 km. Owners can expect efficient highway cruising, though fuel consumption will naturally increase in heavy GCC city traffic with the AC running at maximum capacity. Kia enjoys one of the strongest service footprints in the Middle East, ensuring parts are readily available and affordable. Historically, the Sorento retains value well, depreciating at approximately 10–12% annually, which is superior to many Western competitors in the same segment.

Performance & Capability

The 180 hp naturally aspirated 2.5L engine is paired with a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission, providing a linear and predictable power delivery ideal for daily commuting. While this front-wheel-drive configuration is not intended for heavy dune bashing, its ground clearance is ample for gravel tracks and weekend trips to farm areas or beach outskirts. On the highway, the Sorento remains composed and quiet, with enough torque to manage a full load of seven passengers comfortably at cruising speeds.

Comfort & Cabin

Cabin comfort is a highlight, featuring a dedicated rear climate zone with vents for all three rows to ensure rapid cooling during extreme summer heat. The SynTex seating is specifically chosen for durability and ease of cleaning, a major plus for families with children. With the third row stowed, the boot offers over 600 liters of space, easily accommodating large grocery hauls or luggage for airport runs. The cabin is well-insulated, providing a serene environment away from the noise of multi-lane highway traffic.

Safety

This SX trim comes equipped with Kia's 'Drive Wise' safety suite, featuring Lane Keeping Assist and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance, which are essential for navigating fast-moving GCC highways. It also includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and a high-resolution rear-view monitor with dynamic guidelines. Standard safety equipment includes multiple airbags and ISOFIX points, contributing to its reputation as a highly-rated family vehicle in international safety testing.

The bottom line

For the family buyer seeking a modern, tech-forward 7-seater that won't break the bank on maintenance, this Sorento SX is a standout choice in today's market.
