Summary

This 2022 FJ Cruiser GXR is a standout opportunity for those seeking one of the final production years of this legendary off-roader. Finished in classic white, the most desirable color for heat reflection and resale value in the GCC, it offers the perfect balance of modern refinement and rugged heritage. With 105,000 km, the mileage is remarkably consistent with typical UAE highway use, ensuring the drivetrain is well-settled but far from its peak longevity. As a GXR trim, it provides the essential hardware upgrades that serious desert enthusiasts and daily commuters alike demand. For the GCC buyer, the peace of mind offered by Toyota's unmatched reliability and parts availability makes this a secure long-term investment.

This Car vs Other 2022 FJ Cruisers

With 105,000 km on the odometer, this FJ Cruiser sits at a fair average for a three-year-old vehicle in the GCC, where long-distance commutes between emirates are the norm. Its white exterior isn't just a style choice; it is the highest-performing color for resale in the local market due to its ability to stay cool under the intense summer sun. Buyers will find this specific unit offers a well-maintained entry point into the final generation of a discontinued icon.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim is the sweet spot for the FJ Cruiser, adding critical functional and aesthetic features over the base EXR. It typically includes front and rear parking sensors and a high-quality rear-view camera, which are essential for navigating city parking with the FJ's unique rear-hinged doors. Furthermore, the GXR often benefits from upgraded interior materials and tech connectivity that make it a more comfortable daily driver than the entry-level variants.

FJ Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

When compared to rivals like the Jeep Wrangler or Nissan X-Terra, the FJ Cruiser leads with its massive 159-litre dual-tank system, providing a cruising range that few in this class can match for long desert expeditions. Its body-on-frame construction and 4.0L V6 offer a level of mechanical simplicity and durability that is legendary across the GCC. While competitors may offer more doors, the FJ's shorter wheelbase provides superior breakover angles for technical dune driving.

Running Costs & Resale

The FJ Cruiser is famous for having one of the lowest depreciation rates in the UAE market, often retaining its value better than almost any other SUV in its segment. Maintenance is straightforward and affordable, with service intervals every 10,000 km and an authorised service network that covers every corner of the GCC, from Dubai to Riyadh. While the 4.0L V6 is built for power rather than hyper-efficiency, the widespread availability of parts ensures that long-term ownership costs remain predictable.

Performance & Capability

Powered by the robust 1GR-FE 4.0L V6, this FJ Cruiser delivers 270 hp and 380 Nm of torque, providing the necessary momentum for steep dune climbs. It features a genuine part-time 4WD system with a low-range transfer case and approximately 245 mm of ground clearance, making it capable of tackling the toughest wadis and sand tracks. On the highway, the V6 offers smooth power delivery and sufficient overtaking capability for the fast-moving traffic typical of the UAE's major arterial roads.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for durability and ease of use, featuring water-resistant seat materials and heavy-duty floor mats that handle sand and dust with ease. Despite its rugged exterior, the air conditioning system is exceptionally powerful, a critical requirement for maintaining a cold cabin during peak GCC summers. The unique 5-seat layout and suicide-style rear doors offer a wide opening for loading gear or passengers, while the GXR's infotainment ensures modern connectivity on long road trips.

Safety

Standard safety features on this trim include Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Active Traction Control (A-TRC), and Anti-lock Brakes (ABS) with Brake Assist, all of which are vital for maintaining control on unpredictable sand surfaces. The GXR also comes equipped with a suite of airbags and cruise control, providing a safe and relaxed environment for long-distance highway cruising between GCC cities.

The bottom line

This FJ Cruiser is the ideal choice for the enthusiast who wants a modern classic that holds its value as well as it holds a trail. It is a reliable, high-spec workhorse that is perfectly suited for the unique demands of the GCC climate and terrain.
