Summary

This 2022 FJ Cruiser GXR represents a rare opportunity to own a late-model example of a legendary off-roader whose production has officially ended. With white being the most sought-after resale color in the GCC and the GXR trim offering the ideal balance of ruggedness and modern convenience, this vehicle is perfectly suited for the regional market. The FJ Cruiser stands out from its rivals by offering unmatched reliability and a specialized retro-design that has turned it into a financial asset with appreciating value. For a GCC buyer, the primary consideration is the long-term peace of mind provided by a robust 4.0L V6 engine and a massive fuel range designed for cross-border expeditions.

This Car vs Other 2022 FJ Cruisers

At 113,000 km, this vehicle sits at an average mileage for a four-year-old car in the GCC, where highway-heavy driving is the norm. Its white exterior is the strongest resale color in the local market, ensuring it retains a premium value compared to more niche shades. Finding a 2022 model is increasingly difficult as collectors have begun securing the final production units.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim adds significant value over the base EXR, most notably through the addition of a rear-view camera and parking sensors which are essential for navigating the FJ's unique rear profile. It also features cruise control and an upgraded audio system, making long highway stretches between emirates far more comfortable without sacrificing any of the core 4x4 hardware.

FJ Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

While the Jeep Wrangler offers a more modular experience, the FJ Cruiser leads the segment in long-term mechanical durability and cabin heat insulation, which is critical for GCC summers. Its dual-tank system provides a total capacity of 159 litres, offering a highway range that most modern crossovers and dedicated off-roaders cannot match without aftermarket modifications.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption typically averages 12.4 L/100km, with the dual-tank setup allowing for fewer stops during long-distance desert trips. Toyota's authorized service network is the most extensive in the GCC, ensuring parts and expert technicians are available from Dubai to Muscat. Unlike almost any other SUV, the FJ Cruiser is currently showing a trend of price stability or appreciation as a discontinued enthusiast icon.

Performance & Capability

The 4.0L V6 engine delivers a verified 270 hp and 380 Nm of torque, providing the low-end grunt needed for soft-sand dune climbing. With 245 mm of ground clearance and a selectable part-time 4WD system, it handles extreme terrain that would stop most family SUVs. The body-on-frame construction ensures that the chassis can withstand years of rigorous off-road use across the region.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat interior is designed for durability with water-resistant materials and a powerful air conditioning system engineered for 45°C+ temperatures. The GXR trim includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a clear touchscreen interface with Apple CarPlay for modern connectivity. Cabin insulation is specifically tuned to reduce road noise during high-speed highway cruising.

Safety

Standard safety features on this trim include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), and Active Traction Control (A-TRC), which are vital for maintaining grip on shifting sand and gravel. The GXR also includes dual front airbags and a tire pressure monitoring system to ensure safety during long desert drives where heat can affect tire integrity.

The bottom line

For the desert enthusiast or the collector, this late-model FJ Cruiser is a secure investment that combines iconic retro-styling with the ultimate in GCC-proven reliability.
