Summary

This 2022 FJ Cruiser GXR is a standout find, as it belongs to the final production year of this legendary 4x4, making it a highly sought-after item for collectors and desert enthusiasts alike. Its white exterior is the most preferred resale color in the GCC, and with 119,000 km, the mileage is perfectly in line with typical UAE highway use for a 4-year-old vehicle. While many modern SUVs prioritize fuel economy, the FJ remains a purpose-built icon with a body-on-frame chassis that dominates the dunes of Liwa or the rocky tracks of Hatta. For a GCC buyer, the unparalleled parts availability and high demand at resale make this one of the safest automotive investments in the region.

This Car vs Other 2022 FJ Cruisers

With 119,000 km, this vehicle has covered roughly 29,750 km per year, which is standard for a robust 4x4 in a region where long-distance highway commutes between emirates are the norm. Its white paint is the strongest resale color for the local climate, reflecting heat more effectively than darker shades. As a final-year model, it carries the maximum refinements Toyota introduced before production ceased, placing it in a higher demand bracket than earlier iterations.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim adds essential hardware that GCC off-roaders prioritize, most notably the Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) and Crawl Control systems which are absent on entry-level models. Inside, the GXR upgrades the experience with a leather-trimmed steering wheel and a built-in rearview camera integrated into the display—a critical feature for navigating tight urban parking in Dubai or Riyadh. You also benefit from the factory-fitted sub-tank, extending your range for long desert expeditions without needing external jerry cans.

FJ Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Jeep Wrangler, the FJ Cruiser offers superior cabin insulation and highway manners for the long drives between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Its 4.0L V6 is widely regarded as more reliable in extreme summer heat than the turbocharged engines found in some European rivals. Against the Nissan X-Terra, the FJ maintains a significantly higher resale floor in the UAE and Saudi markets due to its iconic status and discontinued supply.

Running Costs & Resale

The FJ Cruiser is renowned for holding its value; in the GCC, well-maintained late-model units often depreciate at less than 8% annually, far outperforming the segment average. Real-world fuel consumption typically hovers around 12.4 L/100km, though this can increase during heavy desert use. Service intervals are recommended every 10,000 km, and with the most extensive authorized service network in the Middle East, maintenance is convenient whether you are in Muscat, Kuwait City, or Jeddah.

Performance & Capability

With 245 mm of ground clearance and a 700 mm wading depth, this vehicle is built for serious terrain. The 270 hp V6 provides the low-end torque necessary for climbing steep dunes, while the part-time 4WD system with a rear differential lock ensures you rarely get stuck. On the highway, the automatic transmission is geared for comfortable cruising at 120 km/h, making it a capable cross-border traveler.

Comfort & Cabin

The 5-seat cabin is designed with durability in mind, featuring water-resistant seat materials and rubber floor mats that are easy to clean after a weekend in the sand. The air conditioning system is specifically tuned for the 45°C+ GCC summers, providing rapid cooling that many competitors struggle to match. Its unique three-door configuration with rear-opening 'suicide' doors provides wide access to the rear bench, while the upright windscreen offers a commanding view of the road.

Safety

Safety features on this trim include Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Active Traction Control (A-TRAC), and a suite of airbags to protect occupants. For highway driving, the GXR comes standard with Cruise Control and Brake Assist (BA), which are particularly useful for maintaining safety during high-speed travel on the E11 or E311. The sturdy body-on-frame construction provides a level of passive safety and impact resistance that is highly valued by local drivers.

The bottom line

For the enthusiast who wants the final chapter of a legend, this 2022 GCC-spec FJ Cruiser GXR offers the perfect blend of off-road dominance and bulletproof resale security.
