Summary

This 2022 Toyota Hilux DLS represents a premier opportunity for GCC buyers seeking a nearly new workhorse with exceptionally low mileage for its age. With significantly less than the typical annual average for a pickup in this region, this vehicle offers years of mechanical longevity and peak performance. The crisp white exterior is the most sought-after color for resale in the local market, ensuring it retains its value better than almost any other vehicle in its class. As a DLS trim, it strikes the perfect balance between rugged utility and daily comfort, making it just as capable on a construction site as it is on a weekend desert excursion. Its diesel powertrain combined with a manual gearbox and 4WD provides the exact mechanical configuration preferred by serious off-road enthusiasts and commercial operators across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Choosing a GCC-spec model ensures full compatibility with local service networks and cooling requirements, making this a worry-free investment for long-term ownership.

This Car vs Other 2022 Toyota Hiluxs

When compared to other 2022 models currently available in the GCC used market, this particular Hilux stands out primarily due to its odometer reading. While the average pickup in the region often covers 25,000 km or more annually, this vehicle has been driven much less, preserving the engine, suspension, and interior condition. The white exterior paint is not just a stylistic choice but a strategic one for the Gulf climate, as it reflects heat more efficiently and commands the highest demand during resale. Most 2022 units in the market have already seen heavy industrial use, but this example shows the hallmarks of careful ownership. The combination of the 2.4L diesel engine and manual transmission is increasingly rare in low-mileage examples, making this a unique find for those who prioritize mechanical control and long-term durability. Buying this specific unit allows you to skip the steepest part of the depreciation curve while still enjoying a vehicle that feels and drives like it recently left the showroom.

DLS vs Lower Trims

The DLS trim represents a significant step up in both utility and cabin refinement compared to the entry-level commercial variants. While base trims often feature basic vinyl interiors and limited electronics, the DLS provides a more passenger-friendly environment with upgraded upholstery and a more sophisticated dashboard layout. You gain better sound insulation, which is a noticeable advantage during long highway drives between Emirates where road noise can become fatiguing in lower-spec trucks. Externally, the DLS often features body-colored bumpers and more durable trim accents that resist the harsh GCC sun better than the unpainted plastics found on basic work trucks. The inclusion of more advanced climate control systems ensures that the cabin remains a sanctuary even when outside temperatures exceed 45°C. For a GCC buyer, these upgrades mean the vehicle can easily transition from a weekday work vehicle to a comfortable family transport for weekend trips.

Hilux vs Segment Rivals

The Toyota Hilux faces competition from the Mitsubishi L200 and the Nissan Navara, but it consistently leads the segment in terms of regional trust and parts availability. While rivals may offer different engine configurations, the Hilux's 2.4L diesel is specifically tuned for the high-sulfur fuel often found in certain parts of the GCC, ensuring better long-term reliability. Its cooling system is widely regarded as the most robust in the class, capable of maintaining engine and cabin temperatures under the most extreme desert conditions. The Hilux also offers a superior approach and departure angle compared to many of its peers, which is a critical factor for users navigating sandy terrain or rocky wadis. Furthermore, the sheer volume of Hilux units in the region means that any roadside assistance or specialized repair is significantly easier to source than for its competitors. This dominance in the market translates to a much faster resale process when the time comes to upgrade.

Running Costs & Resale

Running a Hilux in the GCC is remarkably cost-effective thanks to the widespread availability of affordable spare parts and a massive network of authorized service centers from Abu Dhabi to Muscat. The 2.4L diesel engine is highly efficient, providing excellent fuel economy on the long highway stretches common in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, while the manual transmission avoids the complex maintenance costs associated with older automatic units. In terms of depreciation, the Hilux is a gold standard in the region; it typically loses value at a rate of only 8–10% annually, far outperforming American and European pickup rivals which can see 15% or more. After three years of ownership, a well-maintained Hilux often retains over 70% of its original purchase price, making it one of the safest financial bets in the automotive world. Service intervals are standardized and predictable, ensuring that the total cost of ownership remains the lowest in the mid-size pickup segment. This GCC-spec model further protects your investment by ensuring it meets all local regulatory and environmental standards.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this Hilux is the 147 hp 2.4L turbocharged diesel engine, which delivers its torque low in the rev range—perfect for heavy hauling or navigating soft sand. The manual transmission gives the driver total control over power delivery, a feature highly prized by those who take their vehicles into the deep desert or across challenging terrain. With a genuine four-wheel-drive system including high and low-range gearing, this truck can tackle steep inclines and loose surfaces that would stop a standard crossover in its tracks. Its ground clearance is among the best in the segment, providing ample room to clear obstacles during off-road excursions in the Northern Emirates or the empty quarter. The 3.5-tonne towing capacity ensures you can easily transport trailers, boats, or equipment across the country with total confidence. Whether you are overtaking on the E11 or climbing a mountain road in Hatta, the power delivery is consistent and dependable.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Hilux DLS offers a surprisingly refined experience for a vehicle known for its toughness, with a five-seat configuration that provides ample room for a full crew or family. The air conditioning system is a standout feature, engineered to cope with the extreme humidity of the coast and the dry heat of the interior deserts, cooling the entire cabin in minutes. The seats are designed for long-distance support, essential for those four-hour drives between major GCC cities. Storage is plentiful throughout the cabin, with clever compartments for electronics, documents, and refreshments. The double-cab layout features four full-sized doors, allowing for easy entry and exit even in tight parking spaces. High-quality cabin insulation helps to dampen the characteristic diesel hum, making for a quieter and more relaxed journey on the highway. This is a cabin designed to be a durable workspace by day and a comfortable family environment by night.

Safety

Safety is a paramount consideration for the Hilux, which carries a 5-Star NCAP rating, providing peace of mind on the busy, fast-moving highways of the GCC. It comes equipped with essential active safety features including Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), which are vital for maintaining control during emergency stops on sandy or sun-slicked roads. The reinforced chassis and multiple airbag system provide a protective cell for all five occupants in the event of a collision. Stability control systems work silently in the background to prevent skidding, a crucial feature when driving a high-clearance vehicle in windy conditions or on gravel. For families, the inclusion of ISOFIX child seat anchors makes it a practical choice for safe transport. This trim level ensures that you don't have to sacrifice safety for utility, offering the same level of protection as many modern SUVs.

The bottom line

This 2022 Toyota Hilux DLS is the ideal choice for a buyer who demands the ultimate in reliability and resale value without the high price tag of a brand-new showroom model. With its low mileage, GCC-specific cooling, and preferred diesel-manual-4WD setup, it represents a rock-solid investment for both work and play in the Gulf.
