Toyota Land Cruiser GXR

Highlights

• 3,500 kg braked towing capacity
• Extensive GCC authorised service network
• Body-on-frame construction

Summary

This 2022 Land Cruiser GXR represents the entry into the refined LC300 generation, balancing modern technology with the legendary reliability of the naturally aspirated 4.0L V6. With 82,000 km, the mileage is perfectly aligned with the typical 20,000–25,000 km annual average for high-use SUVs in the GCC. Finished in White, it occupies the strongest resale position in the regional market, ensuring high liquidity and value retention. The GXR trim is widely considered the sweet spot for GCC families, offering essential comforts like a factory refrigerator and tri-zone cooling without the complexity of twin-turbo systems. For a buyer in the Emirates or Saudi Arabia, the sheer density of the Toyota service network makes this the most low-stress ownership proposition in the full-size SUV segment.

This Car vs Other 2022 Land Cruisers

At 82,000 km, this vehicle has been driven approximately 20,500 km per year, which is considered average for the GCC where long-distance highway commutes are standard. The exterior White paint is the most sought-after color in the region, offering a distinct advantage in both heat reflection and future resale value. While many 2022 models have already surpassed the 100,000 km mark, this example remains in its prime mechanical window for the naturally aspirated V6 powertrain.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim provides a significant step up from the base EXR, most notably adding a factory-integrated refrigerator in the center console and a larger 9-inch infotainment display with integrated navigation. It also upgrades the cabin experience with power-adjustable seating and enhanced interior trim materials that better withstand the GCC sun. These additions are highly valued by local buyers, often commanding a higher premium at resale than the initial cost of the trim upgrade.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Nissan Patrol, the Land Cruiser offers superior fuel tank range for long-distance desert crossings and a more modern TNGA-F chassis that improves highway stability. While rivals like the Chevrolet Tahoe offer more raw interior volume, the Toyota leads the segment in resale liquidity and the availability of spare parts in even the most remote areas of the GCC. Its 4.0L engine is specifically favored for its simplicity and heat tolerance compared to the turbocharged units found in many newer competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.0L V6 averages around 10.6 L/100km on the highway, rising to approximately 16 L/100km in heavy stop-start city traffic in Dubai or Riyadh. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, supported by the most extensive authorized service network in the Middle East, ensuring consistent maintenance history. The Land Cruiser continues to lead the region in value retention, typically losing only 8–10% of its value annually, significantly outperforming European luxury SUV rivals.

Performance & Capability

The 271 hp V6 is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a robust all-wheel-drive system featuring a low-range transfer case for genuine off-road capability. Its body-on-frame construction and 235 mm ground clearance allow it to navigate soft sand dunes and rocky wadis with ease. Even when fully loaded with a family of seven, it maintains a braked towing capacity of 3,500 kg, making it a capable workhorse for weekend camping trips or hauling trailers across borders.

Comfort & Cabin

Designed for the extreme Middle Eastern climate, the GXR features a powerful tri-zone climate control system with dedicated rear vents to keep all seven passengers cool during peak summer. The cabin is well-insulated against road noise and external heat, featuring plush seating and a versatile third row that now folds flat into the floor for increased cargo space. The center console refrigerator is a staple of GCC driving culture, providing chilled beverages during long desert highway hauls.

Safety

Standard safety features on the GXR include a comprehensive airbag system, vehicle stability control, and active traction control for sand and gravel surfaces. This trim also includes front and rear parking sensors and a high-resolution rear-view camera to assist in maneuvering its large footprint in tight city spaces. The LC300 generation's high-strength steel frame provides a rigid safety cell, a critical factor for family buyers prioritizing protection on fast-moving regional highways.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer seeking the ultimate balance of legendary durability and modern comfort, this GCC-spec 4.0L GXR is the safest and most liquid investment in the pre-owned SUV market.
