Summary

This 2023 Ford Explorer Base represents an exceptionally balanced buy for GCC families, offering the preferred 3.3L V6 engine that provides smooth, naturally aspirated power for long highway stints. With just over 44,000 km, its mileage is significantly below the regional average for a two-year-old SUV, suggesting a well-preserved mechanical life. The white exterior is the gold standard for resale in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, as it effectively manages the summer heat and hides desert dust better than darker tones. As a GCC-spec model, it is fully optimized for local cooling requirements and remains a highly liquid asset in the used market. It stands out in the mid-size segment by offering a rear-wheel-drive-based architecture that delivers superior towing stability and a more planted feel on the open road compared to front-drive rivals.

This Car vs Other 2023 Explorers

With 44,738 km on the odometer, this Explorer has been driven approximately 22,000 km per year, which is notably lower than the 25,000 km typical for family SUVs in the GCC. The white paint is the most requested color in the local market, ensuring it stays cooler during the peak summer months and retains its value better than unique shades. Choosing a GCC-spec vehicle like this one ensures full compatibility with regional service centers and local cooling modifications.

BASE vs Lower Trims

The Base trim serves as the entry point to the Explorer lineup but comes generously equipped with the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite, including Blind Spot Monitoring and Lane-Keeping Assist. While higher trims add leather and larger screens, the Base provides the essential tri-zone climate control and SYNC 3 infotainment that GCC families prioritize for daily comfort. It also retains the same 10-speed automatic transmission found in the premium variants, ensuring no compromise on drivetrain smoothness.

Explorer vs Segment Rivals

The Explorer distinguishes itself from rivals like the Nissan Pathfinder and Toyota Highlander by utilizing a rear-drive-biased platform, which offers a more robust towing capacity and better weight distribution. Its dedicated 515-litre boot space behind the third row is among the most practical in its class, allowing for family grocery hauls even with a full passenger load. Additionally, the 3.3L V6 provides a linear power delivery that many buyers prefer over the smaller turbocharged engines found in some European competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Maintenance is straightforward across the UAE and wider GCC, supported by an extensive network of Ford authorized service centers in all major cities. The naturally aspirated 3.3L V6 is a proven workhorse in the region, known for its long-term durability and resistance to high-ambient temperatures. While Japanese rivals may depreciate slightly slower, the Explorer remains one of the fastest-selling American SUVs in the used market, typically retaining about 70-75% of its value after the first three years.

Performance & Capability

The 285 hp V6 engine is paired with an intelligent All-Wheel Drive system that makes highway overtaking effortless, even when fully loaded with seven passengers. The Terrain Management System allows the driver to quickly optimize the vehicle for different surfaces, providing confidence during weekend trips to gravel tracks or rain-slicked roads. With a ground clearance of approximately 200 mm, it handles standard speed bumps and minor off-road trails common in new GCC residential developments with ease.

Comfort & Cabin

Designed for long-distance GCC travel, the cabin features three distinct climate zones to ensure third-row passengers stay cool during August drives. The seven-seat layout is highly flexible, with easy-entry second-row seating that simplifies access to the back. Sound insulation is a highlight for this model year, providing a quiet environment that shields occupants from wind noise during high-speed cruising between emirates.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive on this trim, led by the Ford Co-Pilot360 system which includes Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking and a Rear View Camera with a built-in washer. The suite of seven airbags and AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control are particularly valuable for maintaining composure in the fast-moving, multi-lane traffic common on GCC highways. Unlike many entry-level SUVs, this trim does not sacrifice active driver-assist technology for value.

The bottom line

For a GCC buyer seeking a modern, low-mileage 7-seater that won't lose significant value at resale, this white V6 Explorer is a highly rational and reliable choice.
