Summary

This 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe SMART trim offers an exceptional balance of modern design and functional utility for families in the GCC region. Given its recent model year and white exterior—the most sought-after resale color in the Middle East—this vehicle represents a high-value entry into the mid-size SUV market. It stands out from rivals by offering a genuine seven-seat configuration that remains comfortable even during long cross-country drives between emirates. The 2.4L engine is perfectly tuned for the stop-start nature of city traffic in Dubai or Riyadh while maintaining enough poise for steady highway cruising. For a buyer looking for a reliable, tech-forward family hauler that maintains its value better than almost any other non-Japanese rival, this GCC-spec example is a premier choice. The primary ownership advantage here is the peace of mind provided by Hyundai’s massive service footprint across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring parts and expert maintenance are never far away.

This Car vs Other 2023 Santa Fes

While the mileage on this specific 2023 unit reflects active use, it is consistent with a vehicle primarily used for long-distance highway commutes common in the GCC, such as daily travel between Sharjah and Dubai or Al Ain and Abu Dhabi. In the local market, highway-driven vehicles are often preferred over those idling in heavy city traffic, as it results in less wear on the transmission and cooling systems. The white exterior provides a significant advantage for the next owner, as it effectively reflects the intense Arabian sun, keeping the cabin cooler and ensuring the highest possible resale demand later. Compared to other 2023 models on the market, this unit provides a modern aesthetic and up-to-date technology without the steep initial depreciation of a brand-new showroom car. It represents a mature buying choice for someone who values a late-model year over low-usage garage queens.

SMART vs Lower Trims

The SMART trim is the sweet spot of the Hyundai Santa Fe lineup, introducing several features that are essential for the GCC climate that lower base trims lack. Most notably, the SMART trim focuses on enhancing the interior experience with better materials and more robust climate control distribution, which is vital when the second and third rows are occupied during the summer months. You get an upgraded infotainment interface that integrates seamlessly with modern smartphones, a feature often simplified in entry-level variants. The exterior also benefits from more premium lighting elements and wheel designs that give the car a more sophisticated presence on the road. Furthermore, the SMART trim includes additional driver assistance sensors that provide a layer of protection and convenience that budget-conscious base models omit. It feels like a complete vehicle rather than a rental-spec alternative.

Santa Fe vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Kia Sorento, the Santa Fe offers a more futuristic and premium interior design language that appeals to those who want their family car to feel upscale. Against the Toyota Fortuner, the Santa Fe provides a significantly smoother and more car-like ride quality thanks to its unibody construction, making it much better suited for daily school runs and highway travel. While the Nissan X-Trail is a strong competitor, the Santa Fe leads in terms of overall cabin width and the ease of access to the third-row seating area. The 2.4L powertrain is a proven workhorse in this region, offering a simpler mechanical profile than some of the turbocharged European rivals, which translates to easier long-term maintenance in high-heat environments. It occupies a unique space where it feels more substantial than a compact crossover but is easier to park and maneuver than a full-size SUV.

Running Costs & Resale

Running costs for this GCC-spec Santa Fe are impressively manageable, with the 2.4L engine delivering a balanced fuel economy that averages around 10.5L per 100km in mixed GCC driving conditions. On long highway stretches between major cities, this figure improves significantly, aided by the efficient automatic transmission tuning. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it benefits from a cooling system and radiator designed specifically for 45°C+ temperatures, which prevents the costly overheating issues sometimes seen in imported North American models. Resale value for the Santa Fe is among the strongest in the Hyundai portfolio, typically seeing a very predictable 12% annual depreciation, which is far superior to its American or European counterparts. With authorized service centers like Juma Al Majid in the UAE and Wallan or Naghi in Saudi Arabia, maintaining this vehicle is convenient regardless of where you are in the region. Value retention at the three-year mark remains high due to the brand's growing reputation for reliability and the universal availability of affordable spare parts.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this SUV is its reliable 2.4L four-cylinder engine, providing a smooth and linear power delivery that is ideal for navigating busy urban corridors and maintaining steady speeds on the E11 or E311 highways. While it is a Front Wheel Drive (FWD) configuration, it offers excellent stability and grip on paved surfaces and can easily handle gravel paths or firm sand access roads leading to popular weekend spots. The suspension is tuned for comfort, soaking up road imperfections and speed bumps with ease, ensuring that all seven passengers remain undisturbed. With a ground clearance of approximately 176 mm, it provides a commanding view of the road and enough height to navigate typical regional road hazards without concern. The steering is light and precise, making it one of the easiest 7-seaters to park in tight mall basements. Drive modes allow the pilot to sharpen throttle response when merging into fast-moving traffic or optimize for fuel efficiency during relaxed cruising.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior of the Santa Fe is designed with the large GCC family in mind, featuring a versatile 7-seat layout that can be easily reconfigured to accommodate massive shopping hauls or holiday luggage. The air conditioning system is a standout feature, known for its ability to rapidly pull down cabin temperatures even after the car has been parked in direct sunlight. Rear passengers benefit from dedicated air vents, ensuring that the second and third rows stay just as cool as the driver. The cabin insulation is remarkably effective at blocking out wind and road noise, creating a quiet sanctuary for long drives across the desert. Storage is abundant, with numerous cupholders and cubbies strategically placed for every passenger's convenience. The SMART trim's seats are designed for ergonomic support, preventing fatigue during the long-distance travel typical of residents in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Safety

Safety is a hallmark of the 2023 Santa Fe, which boasts a 5-Star NCAP rating, providing maximum protection for your most precious cargo. This SMART trim includes essential active safety features such as Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, which are invaluable on the wide, multi-lane highways of the GCC. The vehicle is equipped with a comprehensive airbag system and reinforced side-impact beams to ensure structural integrity in the event of a collision. Stability control and traction management systems work silently in the background to maintain composure during sudden maneuvers or on surfaces made slippery by rare rain or blowing sand. For families, the inclusion of ISOFIX child seat anchors and child safety locks provides the necessary security for younger travelers. It is a vehicle that doesn't just meet safety standards; it proactively works to keep the driver aware of their surroundings at all times.

The bottom line

This 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe SMART is the ideal choice for a growing family that needs a reliable, GCC-hardened 7-seater without the high price tag of a brand-new model. It offers the perfect blend of modern tech, high resale potential, and the peace of mind that comes with a GCC-spec vehicle.
