Summary

This 2023 Infiniti QX55 in the Essential trim offers a compelling alternative to traditional compact luxury SUVs, blending a striking coupe-like silhouette with the mechanical reliability expected of a Japanese premium brand in the GCC. With mileage that reflects typical executive commuting between emirates, this vehicle remains a modern, high-spec choice for those who value road presence and cabin tech. The Grey exterior is a highly resilient resale color in the regional market, performing well under the intense sun and maintaining its appeal across secondary markets in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. It stands out for its unique engine technology that balances power for highway overtakes with efficiency during city traffic. For the GCC buyer, the standard all-wheel drive and robust climate control systems make it a reliable partner for year-round comfort.

This Car vs Other 2023 QX55s

With 81,205 km on the odometer, this QX55 has been driven slightly above the global average but sits right within the expected range for the GCC, where highway-heavy commutes are the norm. This mileage is consistent with a vehicle that has been regularly used for inter-city travel, which often means the engine has operated at optimal temperatures for longer periods compared to city-only cars. The Grey paintwork is a strategic choice for the region, offering a neutral yet sophisticated look that holds its value significantly better than bolder colors in the local used market.

ESSENTIAL vs Lower Trims

The Essential trim provides several critical upgrades over the base Luxe model that are highly valued by GCC buyers, most notably the Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection, which is essential for navigating tight parking spaces in Dubai or Riyadh. You also benefit from rain-sensing wipers and the Adaptive Front Lighting System, which improves visibility during night drives on unlit desert highways. Inside, the Essential trim adds ventilated front seats—a non-negotiable comfort feature for the local summer—and an upgraded Bose Performance Series 16-speaker audio system.

QX55 vs Segment Rivals

The QX55 competes directly with the BMW X4 and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, leading the segment in standard features for the price point, particularly with its standard Intelligent All-Wheel Drive. While European rivals often require expensive options for similar tech, the QX55 includes ProPILOT Assist and a unique dual-touchscreen interface as standard. It also offers a larger boot capacity of 762 litres with the seats up, providing more practical space for family grocery runs or weekend trips to the Northern Emirates than many of its fastback competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.0L VC-Turbo engine is designed for versatility, delivering approximately 8.1 L/100km on the highway, making it efficient for long-distance GCC travel, though city consumption in heavy traffic will average closer to 10.5 L/100km. Infiniti enjoys a strong authorized service network across the UAE, Oman, and Saudi Arabia through major distributors like AW Rostamani and Al Masaood, ensuring parts are readily available. While European luxury crossovers tend to depreciate at 12-18% annually, this GCC-spec Infiniti typically follows a more stable 10-12% curve, benefiting from its shared lineage with Nissan’s robust mechanical platforms.

Performance & Capability

The standout feature is the 268 hp Variable Compression Turbo engine, which can physically change its compression ratio to prioritize either high-octane performance or fuel efficiency on the fly. This translates to a 0–100 km/h sprint of 6.6 seconds, giving you plenty of confidence when merging onto fast-moving highways like the E11. The Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system can send up to 50% of power to the rear wheels, providing extra stability on rain-slicked roads or light gravel tracks during weekend escapes.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a sanctuary of leather-appointed surfaces and acoustic glass, which effectively insulates passengers from outside wind noise and the harsh GCC heat. With the Essential trim, the ventilated front seats and dual-zone climate control work efficiently to cool the cabin rapidly, even after the car has been parked in direct sunlight. The sliding second-row seats allow for class-leading rear legroom, ensuring adult passengers remain comfortable during long drives across the border.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive on the Essential trim, featuring the ProPILOT Assist suite which includes Intelligent Cruise Control and Steering Assist to reduce driver fatigue on long highway stretches. Standard equipment includes Blind Spot Intervention, Lane Departure Prevention, and Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, providing multiple layers of protection in fast-paced urban traffic. The 360-degree Around View Monitor is particularly helpful in the GCC, providing a bird's-eye view to avoid obstacles in complex parking environments.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants the aesthetic of a premium European coupe-SUV but prefers the reliability and lower long-term running costs of a GCC-spec Japanese brand, this high-spec Essential trim is the perfect middle ground.
