Summary

This GCC-spec Mazda CX-5 strikes a professional balance between everyday utility and a driving experience that feels more premium than its rivals. With its 2.5L engine and front-wheel-drive layout, it offers a refined highway cruise and better efficiency in city traffic compared to all-wheel-drive variants. Blue remains a sophisticated choice in the UAE market, standing out against the monochrome fleet while maintaining solid resale appeal. This specific listing is a smart pick for buyers who value Mazda’s reliability and superior cabin finish without the added complexity of a turbocharger. For a GCC owner, it represents a hassle-free daily driver that handles the heat and long highway hauls with ease.

This Car vs Other 2023 CX-5s

With 86,812 km on the clock, this CX-5 has been a consistent worker, averaging slightly above the typical GCC annual mileage of 25,000 km. In this market, that often indicates regular highway commuting between Emirates, which is generally easier on the drivetrain than stop-start city idling. The Everlasting Blue exterior is a well-regarded shade in the region, offering a distinct alternative to white or silver while retaining strong desirability for future buyers.

GL vs Lower Trims

As a core trim in the GCC lineup, the GL comes surprisingly well-equipped, providing the large 10.25-inch infotainment screen and Mazda Connect system that many modern buyers demand. Unlike base entry models found in other markets, this spec includes essential safety tech like Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, which are invaluable for navigating fast-moving multi-lane highways in Dubai and Riyadh. It offers the essential Mazda premium feel without the extra cost of the heavier 19-inch wheels found on the top-tier trims.

CX-5 vs Segment Rivals

While rivals like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V lead on raw interior volume, the CX-5 leads the segment in material quality and steering precision. The naturally aspirated 2.5L engine is often preferred by long-term GCC owners over the smaller turbocharged units found in European competitors due to its simplicity in high-temperature environments. It offers a more driver-focused cockpit and a quieter cabin at highway speeds than the Mitsubishi Outlander.

Running Costs & Resale

The CX-5 is a staple of the UAE used market, typically retaining about 51-53% of its value over five years, which is highly competitive for a Japanese crossover. Real-world fuel consumption for this 2.5L FWD spec averages around 8.5 to 9.5 L/100km, though heavy AC use in summer traffic can push these figures higher. Authorized service via Galadari is widely available across the UAE, and the car's mechanical simplicity ensures that independent workshops can easily handle routine maintenance after the warranty period.

Performance & Capability

The 187 hp engine provides a linear power delivery that makes highway overtaking predictable and smooth. With a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 7.6 seconds, it feels more energetic than many of its CVT-equipped rivals. The front-wheel-drive setup is perfectly suited for the UAE’s well-maintained road network, offering a lighter, more agile feel and slightly better fuel economy for those who don't intend to venture into soft sand.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the CX-5 feels a class above its price point with soft-touch materials and a minimalist dashboard design. The air conditioning is specifically calibrated for the GCC, featuring rear vents to keep all five passengers comfortable during the peak of summer. The 40/20/40-split folding rear seats provide versatile cargo options, and the cabin insulation effectively blocks out wind noise during long drives to Abu Dhabi or Muscat.

Safety

Safety is a hallmark of the 2023 CX-5, which features a comprehensive ADAS suite as standard. This includes Adaptive Cruise Control for relaxed highway travel, Lane Departure Warning, and Smart Brake Support to assist in sudden city traffic stops. The inclusion of front, side, and curtain airbags ensures high-level protection for all occupants, contributing to its consistently high safety ratings globally.

The bottom line

For the pragmatist who wants a dash of style, this CX-5 offers the best of Mazda’s refinement in a reliable, GCC-ready package that is ready for its next long-distance commute.
