Summary

This 2023 MG GT Comfort stands out in the GCC market as a modern, high-spec sedan that offers significant value at just three years old. Its vibrant yellow exterior is a high-visibility, trendy choice that resonates well with the youthful design of the GT, often aiding resale in a segment where buyers look for personality. Powered by a punchy 173 hp turbocharged engine, it outpaces many established rivals while maintaining impressive fuel efficiency for daily commutes across the Emirates. For a GCC buyer, this specific trim represents the sweet spot of ownership, providing essential comfort features and a turbocharged powertrain without the premium price of the Luxury trim. As MG's service network continues to expand rapidly across the region, this GCC-spec model remains a reliable and stylish choice for both city driving and inter-city highway travel.

This Car vs Other 2023 MG GTs

At three years of age, this MG GT benefits from having the more desirable 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, which is far more suited to the fast-moving highways of the GCC than the naturally aspirated base units. The yellow exterior is a signature color for this model, maintaining its appeal in the used market as a sporty, non-traditional choice. For this model year, GCC-spec cars are highly preferred over imports due to their cooling systems being specifically designed for extreme summer heat.

COMFORT vs Lower Trims

The Comfort trim is a significant step up from the base model, most notably replacing the standard 1.5L engine with the 173 hp turbocharged powerplant and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Inside, it adds key GCC essentials such as a sunroof, leatherette sports seats, and a high-definition 10-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay. It also introduces a 360-degree parking camera and rear air vents, which are vital for maintaining cabin temperature during the Arabian summer.

GT vs Segment Rivals

The MG GT competes directly with the Toyota Corolla and Hyundai Elantra but leads with its 'shark-hunting' design and a much higher standard horsepower output from its turbocharged engine. While rivals often offer naturally aspirated engines in this price bracket, the GT provides 250 Nm of torque for effortless highway overtaking. It also features a larger 10-inch infotainment screen than many entry-level versions of its Japanese and Korean competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel economy is a highlight, averaging around 5.9 L/100km, making it one of the most efficient turbocharged sedans for commuting between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. MG's authorized service network is now extensive across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, with standard service intervals every 10,000 km. While European sedans in this segment may depreciate faster, the MG GT has shown stable value retention in the GCC, typically seeing a moderate annual depreciation of 15-18% after the initial three-year period.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5L turbocharged engine delivers a verified 173 hp, allowing for a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 215 km/h. This performance is particularly useful for merging onto fast-flowing GCC motorways like Sheikh Zayed Road. The 7-speed DCT provides crisp shifts that complement the sports-tuned chassis, offering a more engaging drive than the CVT gearboxes found in many of its segment rivals.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin features a fighter-jet inspired layout with ergonomic sports seats that provide excellent support during long cross-country drives. The air conditioning system is tailored for the GCC climate, featuring dedicated rear vents to ensure all five passengers stay cool. Practicality is also addressed with a 401-liter boot, which easily accommodates luggage for weekend trips between the Emirates.

Safety

Safety is managed by a high-density steel cage body and a suite of active systems including Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control, and Cornering Brake Control. This trim includes four airbags and a 360-degree camera system, providing much-needed visibility in busy urban parking environments. Additionally, the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System is standard, offering peace of mind during long desert highway hauls in high temperatures.

The bottom line

This 2023 MG GT Comfort is the ideal choice for a buyer who wants a sporty, high-tech sedan that looks and performs like a more expensive vehicle while benefiting from low running costs.
