Summary

This 2023 MG HS Luxury offers a compelling entry into the premium crossover market, featuring the highly sought-after All-Wheel Drive system that is exclusive to the range-topping trim. In the GCC, the black exterior remains a strong choice for resale, providing a sophisticated look that highlights the chrome accents of the Luxury package. With the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, this model provides significantly more highway confidence than the base 1.5-liter variants found elsewhere. It stands out from rivals by offering high-end features like a panoramic sunroof and ventilated leather seats as standard equipment. For any GCC owner, the extensive service network and the balance of performance and cabin tech make this a smart, modern choice for city commuting and inter-city trips.

This Car vs Other 2023 MG HSs

With approximately 76,000 km, this vehicle reflects the typical high-utilization lifestyle of the GCC, where long-distance highway commutes are the norm. Compared to average listings, this HS benefits from being the higher-output 2.0T variant, which is preferred in the local used market over the smaller 1.5T engines. The black finish is a top-tier resale color in the UAE and wider region, maintaining its value better than more niche paint options.

LUXURY vs Lower Trims

The Luxury trim is a significant step up from the Comfort model, most notably adding the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system and the 360-degree surround-view camera. Inside, this trim upgrades the experience with customizable ambient lighting, a power-adjustable passenger seat, and an electric tailgate—features that GCC buyers prioritize for convenience. It also includes the full MG Pilot safety suite, which is often absent or limited on lower-tier trims.

HS vs Segment Rivals

The MG HS leads segment rivals like the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage by offering a 231 hp turbocharged engine as standard in this trim, where competitors often require expensive upgrades for similar power. Its cabin cooling performance is specifically tuned for the Middle East, featuring robust rear ventilation that handles summer heat more effectively than many compact crossovers. Additionally, the standard inclusion of a panoramic roof and high-grade leather upholstery gives it a premium edge over entry-level European rivals.

Running Costs & Resale

The MG HS 2.0T averages approximately 8.2 L/100km, which is competitive for an AWD SUV in GCC stop-start traffic and highway cruising. Maintenance is straightforward with a massive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, typically following 10,000 km intervals. While Chinese brands initially saw higher depreciation, the HS has established a strong secondary market, retaining roughly 55-60% of its value over the first three years, nearly matching established Japanese competitors.

Performance & Capability

The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine delivers 231 hp and 360 Nm of torque, ensuring effortless overtaking on fast-moving UAE highways. The All-Wheel Drive system provides extra stability during heavy seasonal rains and light sand tracks, while the 6-speed automatic transmission is tuned for smooth urban driving. With a top speed of 210 km/h and multiple drive modes, it handles the variety of GCC terrains—from high-speed desert roads to tight city parking—with balanced poise.

Comfort & Cabin

Designed for the GCC climate, the cabin features dual-zone climate control with dedicated rear vents and deeply bolstered leather seats that provide excellent support on long drives. The 10.1-inch touchscreen includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, integrated into a dashboard finished with soft-touch materials. Noise insulation is a hallmark of the Luxury trim, providing a quiet sanctuary from exterior heat and road noise during summer months.

Safety

This HS Luxury comes equipped with a comprehensive safety package including Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and a 360-degree camera system for easy maneuvering in crowded city areas. Passive safety is bolstered by six airbags and a reinforced high-strength steel cage. Standard stability control and hill descent systems provide added confidence when navigating the diverse road conditions found across the Emirates and the wider GCC region.

The bottom line

This MG HS Luxury is an ideal opportunity for a buyer seeking maximum features and All-Wheel Drive capability at a fraction of the cost of its Japanese or European counterparts.
