Summary

This 2023 MG RX8 Comfort presents a compelling opportunity for GCC families seeking a robust seven-seater that punches well above its weight in features. In the regional market, white is a premier resale color, favored for its heat-deflecting properties and strong second-hand demand. This specific model stands out in the segment by utilizing a body-on-frame chassis, a rarity for modern crossovers that provides genuine durability for both desert weekend escapes and long-distance highway hauls between emirates. With its versatile four-wheel-drive system and a high-spec cabin for a mid-range trim, it offers an executive feel without the premium price tag. For any local buyer, the remaining balance of MG’s competitive regional warranty is a significant trust factor that adds long-term peace of mind.

This Car vs Other 2023 MG RX8s

With 61,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle sits within the typical annual usage range for a family SUV in the GCC, where highway commuting often results in higher average distances. The white exterior is a strategic choice for the local used market, typically commanding faster resale and better value retention than more niche colors. It has been well-maintained and remains a very modern option for those looking to avoid the steeper initial depreciation of a brand-new showroom model.

COMFORT vs Lower Trims

The Comfort trim is a significant step up from the base STD model, most notably adding the advanced Torque on Demand (TOD) 4x4 system with selectable drive modes. This upgrade transforms the vehicle from a city cruiser to a capable off-roader, adding essential hardware like the terrain selector which includes a dedicated 4L mode. Inside, Comfort buyers gain superior upholstery and enhanced tech compared to the entry-level offering.

RX8 vs Segment Rivals

The RX8 competes with popular family SUVs like the Kia Sorento and Mitsubishi Outlander, but it leads the segment by offering a traditional body-on-frame truck chassis. This gives it a significant advantage in durability and off-road capability that its unibody rivals cannot match. Furthermore, it offers one of the largest third-row spaces in its class, making it a more practical choice for families who genuinely need all seven seats on a regular basis.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine is tuned for a balance of power and efficiency, typically returning around 10.1 km/L in combined GCC driving conditions. MG maintains an extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, with recommended service intervals of every 10,000 km or 6 months. In the GCC used market, the RX8 holds value well among mid-size SUVs, benefiting from MG’s aggressive regional expansion and long-term warranty support.

Performance & Capability

Boasting a maximum wading depth of 800 mm and 202 mm of ground clearance, the RX8 is built to handle more than just paved roads. The 2.0-liter turbo engine provides ample torque for confident highway overtaking, even with a full load of passengers. The real-time Torque on Demand system can shift power between axles in just 0.1 seconds, ensuring maximum traction on slippery surfaces or soft sand during desert outings.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is designed for the GCC climate, featuring a powerful multi-zone climate control system with dedicated rear vents to keep all three rows cool during summer months. The modular seating layout allows the third row to fold flat for extra cargo, while premium soft-touch materials and wood grain accents provide an upscale atmosphere. Tech highlights include a large touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration as standard.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive for the family, including front and side airbags along with essential active systems like Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control. This trim includes a rear-view camera and parking sensors to make navigating tight city spaces easier. For highway safety, the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Cruise Control come as standard, providing added security for long-distance trips.

The bottom line

This MG RX8 is the ideal match for a GCC family that needs the ruggedness of a 4x4 with the interior refinement of a luxury SUV, all while staying within a sensible budget.
