Summary

This 2023 Mitsubishi Montero Sport GLS Midline represents a balanced choice for GCC families, offering modern styling and genuine 4x4 capability without the steep premium of its rivals. With approximately 53,000 km, its usage is slightly above the typical annual average but remains mechanically sound for the region's long-distance requirements. The blue exterior is a distinctive alternative to the common white and silver, while the 3.0L V6 provides reliable naturally aspirated power suited for hot climates. In a market where durability is king, the Montero Sport stands out by sharing its DNA with the rugged L200, ensuring parts are always available. This specific GLS Midline trim offers the essential tech upgrades that make daily summer commuting in the UAE comfortable and safe.

This Car vs Other 2023 Montero Sports

At 53,433 km, this vehicle has been driven slightly more than the GCC annual average of 25,000 km, yet it remains well within the expected range for a two-year-old family SUV. The blue paintwork offers a unique presence on the road compared to the high volume of white and silver models typically found in local listings. Given the brand's reputation for longevity, this mileage is a minor factor compared to the significant savings against a new unit.

GLS MIDLINE vs Lower Trims

The GLS Midline adds essential features over the base GLX, most notably the 8-speed automatic transmission which provides smoother highway cruising than the entry-level gearboxes. Inside, you benefit from a significantly upgraded 8-inch smartphone link display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a rear-view camera and parking sensors that are vital for navigating tight GCC mall parking. It also steps up to 18-inch alloy wheels and LED projector headlamps for better nighttime visibility during desert highway drives.

Montero Sport vs Segment Rivals

The Montero Sport leads the Toyota Fortuner and Isuzu MU-X in terms of ride comfort, utilizing a more refined rear suspension setup that handles speed bumps and gravel tracks with less bounce. Its Super Select 4WD-II system is a distinct advantage, allowing drivers to switch between 2WD and 4WD at speeds up to 100 km/h, a feature many competitors lack. Furthermore, it offers a more car-like interior ergonomics compared to the truck-based feel of its direct rivals.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.0L V6 engine typically averages around 10.5 L/100km in mixed GCC driving conditions, though heavy city traffic in Dubai or Riyadh may see this figure rise. Maintenance is simplified by one of the most extensive authorized service networks in the Middle East, with parts shared across several Mitsubishi platforms. Historically, the Montero Sport holds its value well in the GCC, typically seeing a depreciation rate of approximately 10-12% annually, making it a safer financial bet than many European equivalents.

Performance & Capability

With 218 mm of ground clearance and a 3.0L V6 delivering 216 hp, this SUV is built for more than just the school run. The four-wheel-drive system includes a low-range transfer case, making it capable of light to moderate desert dune bashing and navigating wadis during the rainy season. On the highway, the 8-speed automatic ensures the engine stays in its power band for confident overtaking at speeds up to 120 km/h.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout is highly configurable, with a third row that folds flat to create a generous cargo area for weekend getaways. A high-output air conditioning system with dedicated rear vents ensures all passengers remain cool during extreme 45°C+ summer days. The GLS Midline cabin features upgraded materials and acoustic glass that significantly reduces wind noise during long-distance inter-city commutes.

Safety

This trim comes standard with an essential safety suite including Active Stability and Traction Control (M-ASTC) and Hill Start Assist, which are particularly useful on loose sand surfaces. Standard safety equipment includes dual front airbags, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and a reinforced RISE body construction designed to protect the cabin in the event of an impact. The inclusion of a rear-view camera and sensors provides added confidence in busy urban environments.

The bottom line

This Montero Sport is the ideal match for a growing family that needs a reliable, GCC-spec 4x4 that can handle both the daily commute and weekend desert adventures with ease. It represents a smart buy for those seeking 2023 technology and styling at a pre-owned price point.
