Summary

This 2022 Mitsubishi Montero Sport GLX represents a pragmatic entry into the mid-size SUV segment, particularly for those prioritizing mechanical simplicity and space. The White exterior is a top-tier choice for the GCC, offering the best resistance to the intense summer heat while ensuring the strongest possible resale demand. With under 40,000 km, this vehicle remains in its prime, having avoided the high-mileage wear typical of long-distance commuter SUVs in the region. Mitsubishi's reputation for reliability, paired with a robust V6 powertrain, makes this an ideal choice for families needing a dependable daily driver that can handle both city school runs and weekend road trips across the Emirates.

This Car vs Other 2022 Montero Sports

With just 39,357 km on the odometer, this vehicle sits well below the GCC average of 20,000 to 25,000 km per year, marking it as a low-usage example for its age. The White paintwork is highly strategic for the local market, as it better conceals desert dust and maintains a lower cabin temperature compared to darker alternatives. While many 2022 models are now approaching major service milestones, this example offers a cleaner mechanical slate for the next owner.

GLX vs Lower Trims

As the base trim in the GCC, the GLX focuses on essential utility but still provides the same 3.0L V6 engine found in higher trims, ensuring no compromise on power. It features standard 18-inch alloy wheels and a touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which are often absent on true entry-level workhorse variants. By forgoing the complex electronic sensors of the GLS, the GLX offers a simpler long-term ownership proposition with fewer components prone to heat-related wear.

Montero Sport vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Toyota Fortuner and Isuzu MU-X, the Montero Sport is often noted for its superior ride comfort thanks to its multi-link rear suspension setup. Its 70-litre fuel tank provides a substantial range for cross-border drives to Oman or long stretches between Abu Dhabi and Riyadh. While rivals often utilize four-cylinder engines, the Mitsubishi's standard V6 provides smoother power delivery for highway overtaking in fast-moving GCC traffic.

Running Costs & Resale

The Montero Sport is one of the most resilient vehicles in the GCC used market, typically experiencing lower annual depreciation than European rivals. Fuel consumption for the 3.0L V6 averages approximately 10.5 L/100km, which is competitive for a seven-seater SUV in this class. Maintenance is straightforward, supported by one of the region's most comprehensive service networks, ensuring parts and expert technicians are available in every major city from Dubai to Muscat. Routine service intervals are generally recommended every 10,000 km or 6 months to ensure optimal performance in extreme temperatures.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a 3.0-litre V6 producing 219 hp and 281 Nm of torque, this SUV is built for steady highway cruising and reliable performance. The 8-speed automatic transmission is optimized for smooth shifts, aiding fuel efficiency during long-distance drives across the desert. With 218 mm of ground clearance, it easily manages high curbs, gravel tracks, and sand-covered roads common in suburban UAE developments. While this RWD configuration is road-biased, its body-on-frame construction ensures the durability needed for the region's challenging climate.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed to accommodate seven passengers across three rows, with dedicated rear AC vents that are essential for maintaining passenger comfort during the peak of summer. The interior layout is focused on durability, featuring high-quality fabric seating that stays cooler than leather when the vehicle is parked in direct sunlight. Tech features like the 8-inch Smartphone-link Display Audio (SDA) ensure the driver remains connected, while the flat-folding rear seats allow for a versatile cargo area for family gear or groceries.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on this trim includes dual front airbags and a suite of braking technologies such as ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). Active Stability and Traction Control (M-ASTC) are particularly useful on sand-slicked roads or during the occasional heavy rain in the region. The vehicle's high driving position provides excellent visibility for navigating multi-lane highways, while rear parking sensors and a camera assist in tight city parking maneuvers.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer seeking a low-mileage, high-reliability family SUV without the premium price tag of a 4WD, this Montero Sport is a standout opportunity. Its V6 power and white-on-fabric configuration make it perfectly adapted for years of comfortable service in the local climate.
