Summary

This 2023 Mitsubishi Montero Sport is an ideal choice for GCC families seeking a balance between daily urban practicality and genuine weekend off-road capability. With 51,000 km, the mileage is slightly above the regional average for a one-year-old vehicle, yet it remains well within the window of peak mechanical health for this durable V6 powertrain. The GLS Premium trim is the most desirable configuration in the local market, offering the full suite of safety and comfort features that buyers prioritize for long highway drives. Finished in black, it maintains a professional aesthetic and strong resale appeal across the UAE and Saudi markets. This model stands out for its legendary Pajero-derived DNA, ensuring it handles the extreme summer heat and desert terrain better than most road-biased crossovers in its class.

This Car vs Other 2023 Montero Sports

While typical GCC annual use ranges from 20,000 to 25,000 km, this vehicle’s 51,000 km suggests frequent highway use between emirates or across borders, which often means better long-term mechanical health compared to stop-start city cars. The black exterior is a high-demand color in the regional used market, ensuring faster resale and value retention. Choosing the GLS Premium ensures you have the maximum safety and tech features not found on the high volume of base-spec rental units available.

GLS PREMIUM vs Lower Trims

The GLS Premium adds essential GCC-specific features over the standard GLS and GLX, most notably the full ADAS suite including Forward Collision Mitigation and Blind Spot Warning. Interior comfort is significantly upgraded with leather upholstery and power-adjustable front seats, which are far better suited for long-distance regional drives than the basic fabric found in lower trims. You also benefit from the 8-inch digital instrument cluster and a powered tailgate with hands-free access, providing a much more modern executive feel.

Montero Sport vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Toyota Fortuner, the Montero Sport offers a more refined 8-speed automatic transmission and a smoother on-road ride quality while maintaining comparable off-road hardware. It provides more advanced cabin technology for the price point than the Isuzu MU-X, particularly with its smartphone-link display and multi-around camera system. For GCC buyers, the primary advantage over rivals like the Ford Everest is the significantly more extensive Mitsubishi service network found in smaller towns across Oman and Saudi Arabia.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.0L V6 typically averages between 10.5 and 11.5 L/100km on GCC highways, though city traffic will see this increase significantly. The engine is well-known for its ability to run reliably on local fuel grades without the sensitivity often seen in European turbocharged rivals. Maintenance is straightforward with 10,000 km service intervals, and the authorized service network is one of the most widespread in the region, keeping long-term ownership costs low. The Montero Sport traditionally retains approximately 70-75% of its value after three years in the UAE market.

Performance & Capability

The 3.0L V6 delivers 230 hp, providing smooth and reliable power for highway overtaking and heavy loads. The defining feature is the Super Select 4WD-II system, which allows you to switch between 2WD and 4WD at speeds up to 100 km/h, perfect for sudden changes in weather or road surface. With 218 mm of ground clearance and a 700 mm wading depth, it is fully equipped for desert wadi exploration and flooded city streets during the winter rains. The 8-speed automatic transmission is geared for efficiency, ensuring the engine remains quiet during long-distance cruises.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout is highly flexible, with a third row that folds flat to accommodate large shopping trips or camping gear. Dual-zone automatic climate control is standard, featuring dedicated roof-mounted vents for both the second and third rows to ensure all passengers remain cool during the 45°C summer peaks. Acoustic insulation has been improved in this generation to minimize desert wind noise at highway speeds, while the leather-wrapped steering wheel and paddle shifters provide a more engaged driving experience for the driver.

Safety

The GLS Premium is equipped with a comprehensive safety package including seven SRS airbags and a 360-degree camera that makes parking this mid-size SUV in tight mall spaces effortless. Active safety systems include Adaptive Cruise Control for relaxed highway driving, Blind Spot Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert to help navigate fast-moving GCC traffic. The body-on-frame construction also provides a rugged safety cell that is highly valued by regional family buyers.

The bottom line

This Montero Sport is a robust, top-spec family SUV that bridges the gap between a daily commuter and a desert adventurer. It represents a smart buy for a family who wants the reliability of a Japanese V6 combined with the latest modern safety technology.
