Toyota Highlander VXR

Highlights

• Hybrid powertrain for fuel efficiency
• Extensive GCC authorised service network
• Strong value retention in the GCC used market

Summary

This 2023 Toyota Highlander VXR is a standout choice for GCC families, offering an exceptional balance of three-row utility and class-leading hybrid efficiency. With 32,000 km over 3 years, its mileage is significantly below the typical 60,000–75,000 km expected for a vehicle of this age in the region. The Grey exterior is a highly practical, strong resale color that handles the local dust and sun better than darker shades. As the flagship VXR trim, it provides a premium cabin experience that rivals luxury brands while maintaining Toyota's legendary reliability. For those frequently commuting between emirates or major GCC cities, this hybrid powertrain is the most effective way to cut long-distance running costs.

This Car vs Other 2023 Highlanders

While many 2023 Highlanders in the GCC market have already crossed the 50,000 km mark due to long-distance commuting, this example has been driven just 32,000 km. This low usage for a 3-year-old vehicle means less wear on the hybrid battery and mechanical components. The Grey paintwork is one of the most sought-after neutral tones in the UAE and Saudi markets, ensuring it remains easy to trade or sell in the future.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR is the absolute top of the Highlander range, adding critical comfort features that lower GXR and LE trims lack. GCC-essential upgrades include ventilated front seats to combat summer heat, a premium 11-speaker JBL audio system, and a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen with a 360-degree camera. It also features a panoramic sunroof and a head-up display, which are major value-drivers in the local used market.

Highlander vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Honda Pilot or the Kia Telluride, the Highlander Hybrid leads the segment in fuel range, often covering over 1,000 km on a single tank. While the Nissan Pathfinder offers more rugged off-road credentials, the Highlander provides a more car-like, refined ride that is better suited for urban family duties in Dubai or Riyadh. Its hybrid system is particularly advantageous in heavy stop-start traffic, where petrol-only rivals consume significantly more fuel.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel efficiency is where this Highlander shines, achieving a manufacturer-estimated 6.7 L/100km, which is nearly 40% better than its V6 competitors. Toyota is the gold standard for resale value in the GCC; at the 3-year mark, these vehicles typically retain over 70% of their original value. Maintenance is straightforward with Al-Futtaim and other major regional distributors offering one of the most accessible service networks in the world.

Performance & Capability

The hybrid system delivers a combined 240 hp, providing smooth and quiet acceleration that is perfect for highway overtaking and city cruising. As an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) SUV, it offers steady grip for rain-slicked roads or gravel paths during weekend escapes to the wadis. The e-CVT transmission is tuned for maximum efficiency, ensuring that long drives across the border are as quiet and economical as possible.

Comfort & Cabin

The 7-seat configuration features high-quality leather upholstery and a dedicated rear climate control system with vents for all three rows—a necessity for the GCC summer. Cabin insulation is excellent, keeping out heat and road noise for a serene executive-style commute. The flexible seating allows for a massive cargo area when the third row is folded, making it ideal for airport runs or large grocery trips.

Safety

This VXR trim comes standard with the full Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ suite, including Adaptive Cruise Control, which is indispensable for the long desert highways between major cities. It also features Lane Tracing Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring for high-speed highway traffic, and Pre-Collision Braking. A comprehensive 7-airbag system and a 360-degree panoramic view monitor ensure maximum peace of mind for family transport.

The bottom line

For a buyer looking for a near-new family SUV with the highest equipment level and significantly lower-than-average mileage, this GCC-spec Highlander VXR is an unbeatable long-term investment.
