Summary

This 2023 Toyota Prado GXR represents a highly sought-after combination in the GCC, offering the robust 4.0L V6 engine and a sensible mileage that aligns with the region's long-distance driving habits. Finished in white, the most favored resale color in the local market, it balances everyday practicality with the legendary off-road capability the Prado is famous for. As a 3-year-old vehicle, it has passed its steepest depreciation curve while retaining the modern safety and tech expected of a recent model. The GXR trim strikes the perfect middle ground, providing essential comfort features without the extreme price tag of the top-tier variants. For anyone needing a reliable seven-seater that can handle both the Dubai commute and weekend trips across the desert, this is a benchmark choice.

This Car vs Other 2023 Prados

With 91,000 km over 3 years, this vehicle sits at an average annual usage of approximately 30,000 km, which is typical for GCC owners who commute between emirates or major cities. The white exterior is a strategic choice for the region, offering superior heat reflection and the strongest possible resale demand. Compared to 2.7L variants often found in the market, this 4.0L V6 model provides the necessary power for confident highway overtaking and sand dune navigation.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim provides a significant step up from the base EXR, most notably by replacing the basic fabric with higher-quality interior finishes and adding a built-in cool box in the center console—an essential for the GCC summer. It also upgrades the exterior with chrome detailing and side steps, while the inclusion of a rear-view camera and front/rear parking sensors makes urban maneuvering much simpler than in the entry-level models. For many buyers, the GXR is considered the 'sweet spot' for its balance of utility and added convenience.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

The Prado continues to lead its segment against rivals like the Mitsubishi Pajero and Nissan Pathfinder, primarily due to its superior 150-litre fuel tank which offers a massive cruising range for long desert stretches. While the Pathfinder leans more toward road-biased comfort, the Prado's body-on-frame construction ensures it remains more durable for off-road use. It also holds its value significantly better than its European counterparts, making it a lower-risk investment for local buyers.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.0L V6 engine is engineered for longevity in high temperatures, with real-world fuel consumption averaging around 13 L/100km in mixed GCC conditions. Maintenance is exceptionally straightforward thanks to one of the most extensive authorized service networks spanning the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring parts are always readily available. The Prado remains one of the slowest-depreciating vehicles in the region, typically retaining a high percentage of its value even after several years of use.

Performance & Capability

The 271 hp V6 engine provides a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 9 seconds, which is ample for a vehicle of this size and weight. Its true strength lies in its 4WD system and low-range transfer case, allowing it to navigate deep sand and rocky terrain where crossovers would struggle. The 220mm ground clearance and specialized approach angles make it a legitimate weekend warrior for those exploring the Hajar Mountains or the Liwa dunes.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed to accommodate seven passengers comfortably, with dedicated rear AC vents that ensure the powerful Toyota climate control reaches every row—a vital feature for the local climate. Tech features include a touchscreen display with Bluetooth connectivity and steering wheel-mounted controls for safe operation at speed. The acoustic windshield helps minimize wind noise during high-speed highway cruising between major GCC hubs.

Safety

Standard safety features on this GXR trim include front and side airbags, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) to maintain traction on shifting sand or gravel. It also features a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), providing extra security when navigating steep inclines or towing trailers through the desert.

The bottom line

This Prado is the ideal match for a family or adventurer looking for a reliable, V6-powered SUV that is perfectly suited to the GCC's demanding environment and holds its value like no other car in its class.
