• Extensive GCC authorised service network

Summary

This 2023 Toyota Prado TX-L represents one of the most reliable and sought-after mid-size SUVs in the GCC market, especially in the final year of the J150 series. Its 2.7-litre engine is built for mechanical simplicity and ease of maintenance, a significant advantage for long-term ownership. The TX-L trim is a strategic choice, adding essential comforts like cruise control and a refrigerator without the complexity of higher-tier electronics. Black is a strong resale color in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, and at 39,000 km, this vehicle is barely past its primary break-in period. For a buyer seeking the ultimate balance between a daily family commuter and a weekend desert explorer, this Prado remains the segment benchmark.

This Car vs Other 2023 Prados

With just 39,000 km on the odometer, this Prado sits well below the typical GCC annual average of 20,000–25,000 km. While many 2023 models are already approaching the 60,000 km mark due to long-distance commuting between emirates, this example offers a significant 'low-mileage' advantage. The black exterior is a high-demand color in the local used market, ensuring faster liquidity and stronger price protection compared to niche colors.

TX-L vs Lower Trims

The TX-L trim provides critical upgrades over the base TX that GCC buyers specifically look for, including cruise control for long highway stretches and a built-in cool box for refreshments during the summer. It also adds a rear-view camera and parking sensors as standard, which are vital for navigating tight urban parking. These additions make the TXL significantly more comfortable for daily family use than the more basic fleet-oriented TX.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Mitsubishi Pajero or Nissan Pathfinder, the Prado leads in mechanical longevity and off-road hardware, featuring a dedicated low-range transfer case that the road-biased Pathfinder lacks. Its massive 150-litre dual fuel tank configuration provides a cruising range that few rivals can match, making it the preferred choice for cross-border trips. While rivals may offer more engine power, the Prado’s resale value in the GCC remains unmatched.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.7-litre 2TR-FE engine is legendary for its durability, with service intervals typically every 10,000 km at authorized centers available in every major GCC city. Real-world fuel consumption averages around 11.5–12.5 L/100km, performing efficiently on 95-octane petrol which is widely available. As a GCC-spec Toyota SUV, it enjoys one of the lowest depreciation rates in the region, typically retaining over 80% of its value after three years.

Performance & Capability

The Prado is built on a rugged body-on-frame chassis with a ground clearance of approximately 215 mm, allowing it to clear obstacles that stop crossover SUVs. Its full-time 4WD system with a Torsen limited-slip center differential provides exceptional stability on both wet tarmac and loose gravel. While the 164 hp engine is tuned for steady reliability, the low-range gearing ensures it remains highly capable for weekend dune bashing and sandy terrain.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout is highly versatile, featuring a foldable third row that expands the boot space for family camping trips. The GCC-spec air conditioning system is specifically engineered for 45°C+ heat, featuring dedicated rear vents for all passengers to ensure rapid cabin cooling. The interior materials in the TX-L are chosen for durability against the fine desert dust and high UV exposure common in the region.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes dual front airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). It also features Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC), which are essential for maintaining grip on sandy or oily road surfaces. The inclusion of a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) provides peace of mind during long desert highway drives where heat can affect tire integrity.

The bottom line

For the buyer who values bulletproof reliability and the best resale value in the Middle East, this low-mileage 2023 TX-L is the smartest entry point into the Land Cruiser family.
