Summary

This 2023 Toyota Prado GXR represents one of the most stable investments in the GCC used car market, combining the legendary reliability of the 4.0L V6 with a mid-high trim level that holds value exceptionally well. With mileage reflecting typical highway use between Emirates, this vehicle has been maintained for the long-distance demands of the region. The white exterior is the premier choice for the Gulf, effectively reflecting heat and ensuring the highest possible resale demand. As a GXR, it bridges the gap between a rugged workhorse and a family-ready SUV with upgraded cabin features. For a buyer in this region, the Prado remains the definitive choice for those who need a vehicle that is just as capable on a desert weekend as it is reliable in 50°C city traffic.

This Car vs Other 2023 Prados

At 88,091 km, this Prado has been driven approximately 44,000 km per year, which is above the GCC average of 25,000 km but typical for owners commuting frequently between major cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. While the mileage is higher than some low-use examples, it reflects a vehicle that has been regularly utilized and mechanically exercised, which often prevents the gasket and seal issues found in stagnant cars. The white exterior is the strongest resale color in the local market, offering a distinct advantage when it comes time to trade in.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim provides significant upgrades over the base EXR, most notably adding 19-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, and roof rails that enhance both aesthetics and utility. Inside, the GXR replaces the basic unit with a larger 9-inch infotainment screen and adds tri-zone climate control, which is essential for maintaining rear-cabin comfort during the peak GCC summer. Safety is also enhanced, with the GXR typically featuring 7 airbags compared to the dual-airbag setup found in lower base models.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

The Prado leads rivals like the Mitsubishi Montero Sport and Nissan Pathfinder in pure off-road durability due to its body-on-frame construction and permanent four-wheel-drive system. While competitors might offer more car-like road manners, the Prado’s dual-tank system provides a combined 150-litre capacity, offering a massive range advantage for long desert crossings or cross-border drives to Oman and Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, the 4.0L V6 is naturally aspirated, avoiding the complexities of the turbocharged engines now found in many modern rivals.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.0L V6 engine delivers a real-world combined fuel consumption of approximately 13L/100km, though this can rise to 18L/100km in heavy stop-start city traffic. Service intervals are strictly every 10,000 km, and Toyota’s authorized network is the most comprehensive in the GCC, ensuring parts are available even in remote areas. The Prado boasts the lowest depreciation rate in its class, typically retaining significantly more of its value after three years compared to American or European SUV alternatives.

Performance & Capability

The 4.0-liter V6 produces 271 hp and 381 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h time of approximately 9.0 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h. Its off-road credentials are authenticated by a low-range transfer case and a center Torsen limited-slip differential with a locking function. With a ground clearance of 215mm and a 700mm wading depth, it is engineered to handle everything from deep sand dunes to flooded wadis during the regional rain season.

Comfort & Cabin

Designed for 7 passengers, the cabin features a versatile 2-3-2 seating layout with a power-folding third row for flexible cargo space. The powerful GCC-spec air conditioning system includes dedicated rear vents and controls to ensure the entire cabin stays cool even when temperatures exceed 45°C. The GXR also includes a cooled center console (cool box), providing refrigerated storage for drinks during long family road trips across the Emirates.

Safety

This GXR trim is equipped with 7 airbags and a suite of active safety technologies, including Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC), and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC). The inclusion of front and rear parking sensors along with a rearview camera makes navigating tight city parking in Dubai or Riyadh far more manageable. The permanent All-Wheel Drive system provides consistent grip on both high-speed highways and unpredictable sandy surfaces.

The bottom line

This Prado is the ideal opportunity for a buyer seeking the ultimate GCC-spec all-rounder that balances modern 2023 tech with the bulletproof reliability of the 4.0L V6 engine. It remains the safest financial bet in the regional SUV market, offering unmatched resale security and cross-border service support.
