Summary

This 2023 Toyota Rush EX represents one of the most practical family entries in the GCC market, offering seven-seat versatility in a maneuverable compact footprint. While many rivals have moved to car-based platforms, the Rush retains a robust rear-wheel-drive layout and high ground clearance that handle the region’s high speed bumps and varied terrain with ease. Its white exterior is the optimal choice for the local climate, reflecting intense summer heat while ensuring the strongest possible resale value. Driven primarily on the highway, its 1.5L engine delivers consistent efficiency, making it an ideal choice for daily school runs or inter-city commutes. For the GCC buyer, the peace of mind provided by Toyota’s unmatched service network and parts availability makes this a remarkably low-risk ownership proposition.

This Car vs Other 2023 Rushs

With 145,000 km, this vehicle has been a dedicated long-distance runner, which is typical for family SUVs in the GCC where highway commutes between emirates are common. Its white finish is the most sought-after color in the regional used market, consistently commanding faster sales and better price retention than darker alternatives.

EX vs Lower Trims

As the EX trim, this model features essential upgrades over base variants that significantly improve the GCC driving experience. It includes a 7-inch touchscreen with integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear-view camera for easier parking, and 17-inch alloy wheels that provide a more stable highway stance than the standard steel wheels found on lower grades.

Rush vs Segment Rivals

The Rush leads competitors like the Mitsubishi Xpander and Suzuki Ertiga by offering a higher 220 mm ground clearance and a rear-wheel-drive configuration, which provides better durability on unpaved surfaces. While rivals focus on car-like comfort, the Rush’s body-on-frame inspired heritage ensures it stands up better to the rigorous heat and high-mileage demands of the Gulf.

Running Costs & Resale

The 1.5L engine is highly efficient for the region, averaging approximately 7.0 L/100km on combined cycles, though GCC stop-start traffic may see figures closer to 9.2 L/100km. Toyota's authorized service centers are available in every major city across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, keeping maintenance costs predictable. This model traditionally sees a low 8-10% annual depreciation, making it one of the safest assets in the compact SUV segment.

Performance & Capability

With 103 hp delivered through a 4-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels, the Rush is tuned for reliability and steady highway cruising rather than raw speed. Its 220 mm ground clearance is a standout metric, allowing it to navigate seasonal rains and sandy patches that would stop standard sedans. The 5.2-meter turning radius makes it exceptionally easy to park in crowded urban areas like Dubai Marina or Riyadh’s city center.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the GCC summer, featuring a high-output air conditioning system with dedicated rear cooling vents to ensure all three rows stay comfortable. The seven-seat layout is highly flexible, with a third row that can be folded or tumbled to expand the cargo area to 514 litres. Dual USB fast-charging ports are included to keep family devices powered during long cross-country drives.

Safety

Standard safety features on this EX trim include six airbags (front, side, and curtain), providing comprehensive protection for all seven occupants. Active systems like Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control, and Hill-Start Assist come standard, offering critical stability during sudden maneuvers on highway stretches or when navigating gravel terrain.

The bottom line

This 2023 Rush EX is a sensible, high-utility choice for a growing family that needs Toyota's legendary reliability and seven seats without the footprint of a larger SUV.
