Summary

This 2024 BAIC BJ40 Honor presents a compelling opportunity for those seeking a rugged, body-on-frame SUV with modern tech. With two years of road presence and mileage that aligns with typical UAE highway use, this Grey unit maintains a high resale profile in a market that favors neutral, heat-reflective tones. As the Honor trim, it bridges the gap between raw utility and daily comfort, offering a more refined interior than the standard variants while retaining the iconic Jeep-inspired silhouette. It is a standout choice for buyers who want a mechanical, durable off-roader without the premium price tag of its American counterparts. For the GCC owner, this vehicle offers a robust alternative designed to handle both the daily crawl of Sheikh Zayed Road and weekend escapes into the dunes.

This Car vs Other 2024 BJ40s

With a mileage of 82,850 km, this vehicle sits at the higher end of the average for a two-year-old car in the GCC, reflecting its suitability for long-distance inter-emirate travel. The Grey exterior is a strategic choice for the region, offering better heat management and stronger resale demand than darker enthusiast colors. It remains a mechanically sound choice for buyers looking for a modern-year SUV that has already navigated its initial depreciation curve.

HONOR vs Lower Trims

The Honor trim adds significant off-road and luxury hardware over the City and entry-level trims, most notably the electronic 4WD transfer case which replaces the older mechanical lever for easier operation. It also upgrades the cabin with a 12.3-inch digital cockpit and larger infotainment screen, alongside leather upholstery and dual-zone climate control. These features are highly valued by GCC buyers who prioritize cabin cooling and modern tech for long summer drives.

BJ40 vs Segment Rivals

The BJ40 competes directly with the GWM Tank 300 and the Jeep Wrangler, leading the segment in pure value-for-money while offering similar body-on-frame durability. Unlike more road-biased crossovers, the BJ40 features a 75-litre fuel tank and a genuine low-range gearbox, making it more capable for extended desert trips than unibody rivals. Its mechanical simplicity is often preferred by GCC enthusiasts for its ease of long-term maintenance compared to high-tech competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.0T engine averages around 10-12 L/100km, performing best on steady GCC highway cruises. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, with a growing authorized service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia ensuring parts availability. While Chinese brands face faster initial depreciation than Japanese stalwarts, the BJ40 holds its value better than segment peers due to its popularity in the local off-roading community.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a 224 hp turbocharged engine paired with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, the BJ40 provides smooth power delivery for highway overtaking and sand crossing. Its off-road geometry is impressive, featuring 210 mm of ground clearance and approach angles that allow it to tackle steep dunes with confidence. The selectable 4WD system and rear differential lock provide the necessary mechanical grip for the UAE's more challenging terrains.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the GCC climate, featuring a powerful dual-zone AC system and rear vents to ensure all five passengers remain cool during summer. The removable hardtop allows for open-air driving during the UAE's cooler winter months, a feature few other SUVs in this price bracket offer. High-quality leather seats and acoustic insulation provide a surprisingly quiet ride on the highway, despite the vehicle's boxy, aerodynamic-defying design.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the Honor trim includes dual front airbags, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and Traction Control for stability on loose gravel or sand. For highway safety, it features a rearview camera and parking sensors to assist in tight urban spots. The high seating position and reinforced body-on-frame construction provide an added sense of security and visibility in fast-moving highway traffic.

The bottom line

Perfect for the adventurous UAE resident who wants a Jeep-like experience and modern digital tech at a fraction of the cost, this well-maintained Honor trim is ready for both the city and the sands.
