Summary

This 2024 BYD Leopard 8 Flagship is a rare opportunity to own a powerhouse PHEV that bridges the gap between urban luxury and serious desert capability. With a massive 939 hp output and a sophisticated All Wheel Drive system, it stands out from traditional SUVs by offering supercar-level acceleration alongside 1,200 km of range. Its black exterior is a high-demand choice in the GCC, ensuring strong resale interest while helping maintain a modern, executive presence. For the UAE buyer, this model represents the cutting edge of hybrid technology, delivering significant fuel savings during city commutes without sacrificing the power needed for high-speed highway tracking. As a current-year model with a flagship equipment list, it provides a high-tech alternative to established luxury off-roaders.

This Car vs Other 2024 Leopard 8s

As a 2024 model, this vehicle represents the very first production year of BYD's off-road flagship, meaning it carries the most up-to-date DMO platform architecture. The mileage is effectively delivery-level for a car of this age in the GCC, providing a distinct advantage over higher-use examples typically found in the regional market. The black-on-black aesthetic is a top-tier resale combination locally, ensuring it remains highly liquid compared to experimental launch colors.

FLAGSHIP vs Lower Trims

The Flagship trim is a significant step up from the Deluxe, most notably adding the full DiSus-P intelligent hydraulic body control system which allows for the maximum 310 mm ground clearance. Inside, this trim upgrades the experience with an 18-speaker premium audio system—including speakers in the driver's headrest—and adds a dedicated passenger-side entertainment screen. GCC buyers will particularly value the standard inclusion of ventilated and massaging seats in both the first and second rows, a feature often omitted in lower specifications.

Leopard 8 vs Segment Rivals

The Leopard 8 competes directly with the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and the Tank 700, yet it leads the segment with a combined 939 hp that dwarfs its petrol-only rivals. Its 91.5-litre fuel tank paired with a 36.8 kWh Blade battery offers a 1,200 km range that surpasses the long-distance cruising ability of almost any traditional V6 SUV. Additionally, the inclusion of a roof-mounted LiDAR for the Huawei ADS 3.0 system provides a level of highway automated driving that rivals in this price bracket currently do not match.

Running Costs & Resale

With a combined fuel consumption of just 8.87 L/100km when the battery is low, this PHEV offers roughly a 40% reduction in running costs compared to traditional V8 off-roaders in GCC stop-start traffic. Service intervals are recommended every 20,000 km, supported by a growing network of authorized centers across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Resale value for BYD's premium models has remained strong in the region, with high-spec hybrids currently retaining approximately 70-80% of their value after three years due to high demand for fuel-efficient luxury.

Performance & Capability

The Leopard 8 delivers a technical 0–100 km/h time of 4.8 seconds, an incredible feat for a body-on-frame SUV of this size. The DMO (Dual Mode Off-road) platform utilizes dual electric motors to provide instantaneous torque, essential for powering through soft sand during weekend desert expeditions. Its hydraulic suspension offers a 140 mm adjustment stroke, allowing you to raise the vehicle to a 310 mm maximum ground clearance for technical trails or lower it for stable, high-speed cruising on the E11 highway.

Comfort & Cabin

This 7-seat configuration is designed for family logistics in the heat, featuring a high-performance multi-zone climate control system with dedicated rear vents. The cabin is an acoustic sanctuary, utilizing double-glazing to insulate passengers from desert road noise and extreme outside temperatures. Luxury touches include a factory-fitted refrigerator in the center console and a 50-inch AR head-up display that ensures the driver never has to look away from the road during long cross-country drives.

Safety

Safety is headlined by 14 standard airbags and the Huawei Qiankun ADS 3.0 suite, which uses LiDAR and dual cameras for active collision avoidance and urban navigation. Standard systems like blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control are particularly useful for the fast-paced highway environments of Dubai and Riyadh. The body-on-frame construction provides a rugged safety cell, while the 360° camera system with transparent chassis view simplifies maneuvering this large SUV in tight city parking.

The bottom line

This Leopard 8 Flagship is the ideal choice for a tech-forward buyer who wants Land Cruiser capability with supercar performance and significantly lower fuel costs. It represents a rare chance to secure a current-year, high-spec hybrid that is perfectly suited for both the daily office run and the weekend dunes.
