Summary

This 2024 BYD Leopard 8 Flagship is a remarkable find in the GCC market, offering a unique blend of supercar-level power and genuine off-road hardware. With 40,000 km over two years, the mileage is perfectly aligned with typical UAE annual usage, while the Gold exterior provides a distinctive presence that holds its appeal well in the region. As a plug-in hybrid, it delivers a massive 939 hp combined output, allowing for silent electric city commuting and long-distance desert touring without range anxiety. The Flagship trim is the most desirable specification, featuring the advanced DiSus-P hydraulic suspension that is essential for both high-speed stability on the E11 and technical off-road articulation. For a GCC buyer, this represents a high-tech alternative to traditional luxury SUVs, offering superior fuel efficiency and futuristic tech at a competitive price point.

This Car vs Other 2024 Leopard 8s

With 40,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle has been driven exactly as expected for a two-year-old car in the UAE, where 20,000 km per year is the standard for highway-heavy commuting. The Gold finish is a standout choice that reflects the heat well, and as a 2024 model, it benefits from the latest DMO super-hybrid platform and Huawei ADS 3.0 software. This specific listing offers a well-settled mechanical history compared to lower-mileage examples that may have spent more time in storage than on the road.

FLAGSHIP vs Lower Trims

The Flagship trim is a significant step up, most notably adding the full DiSus-P (Yunlian-P) intelligent hydraulic body control system, which allows the car to adjust its height by up to 140 mm. Unlike base versions, the Flagship includes the Huawei Qiankun ADS 3.0 LiDAR system for advanced semi-autonomous driving and an upgraded 18-speaker premium audio system. You also get ventilated and massaged seating in both the front and second rows, a critical feature for maintaining comfort during peak GCC summer months.

Leopard 8 vs Segment Rivals

The Leopard 8 competes directly with the Land Rover Defender 110 and the Tank 700, yet it leads the segment with its massive 939 hp output and superior hybrid range of 1,200 km (CLTC). While traditional rivals rely on larger, thirstier engines, the BYD’s PHEV setup offers a silent electric mode for city traffic and instant electric torque for sand dunes. Its 310 mm maximum ground clearance and active road-scanning LiDAR give it a technological edge in ride quality that many established luxury SUVs cannot match.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption is highly efficient for its size, averaging roughly 8.8 L/100km when the battery is depleted, making it significantly cheaper to run than V8 competitors. As a Chinese-spec parallel import, it is supported by a growing network of specialized service centers in Dubai and Sharjah that carry genuine BYD engine and battery components. While European luxury brands often see 15-18% annual depreciation, the Leopard 8's unique position as a high-tech flagship is helping it establish a strong secondary market following for tech-savvy buyers in the UAE.

Performance & Capability

The 939 hp combined output allows this 3.3-ton SUV to reach 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds, ensuring effortless overtaking on fast-moving UAE highways. For off-road enthusiasts, the DMO platform provides specialized modes for sand and gravel, supported by a 310 mm maximum ground clearance and an 890 mm wading depth. The intelligent hydraulic suspension can even lift a single wheel to assist in tire changes or navigate extreme obstacles, making it one of the most mechanically versatile SUVs available.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout is designed for family luxury, featuring premium leather and triple-screen infotainment that integrates seamlessly with the Huawei ecosystem. The cabin cooling system is exceptionally powerful, designed to handle high-temperature environments, and is complemented by ventilated seats in the first two rows. Acoustic glass and advanced NVH insulation ensure the interior remains a quiet sanctuary even at high speeds on the Sharjah-Kalba road.

Safety

Safety is anchored by the Huawei ADS 3.0 suite, which utilizes a roof-mounted LiDAR to scan the road for hazards in real-time. Standard features include 360-degree cameras with a transparent chassis view, adaptive cruise control for long desert drives, and an extensive airbag system. The DiSus-P system also acts as a safety feature by proactively adjusting suspension stiffness to prevent body roll during emergency maneuvers at highway speeds.

The bottom line

This Leopard 8 Flagship is the ideal choice for a UAE buyer who wants the rugged presence of a traditional 4x4 with the performance and efficiency of a modern PHEV. With its high-spec suspension and Huawei tech suite, it offers a future-proof driving experience that is ready for both city luxury and desert adventure.
